5.0 out of 5 stars In the rain or in the snow, PaRappa's got the funk flow!
I grew up playing this game, and when it came out I had never seen anything like it. As a music game, it is more about feeling the beat than watching the screen. The button timing is very well done. The graphics in the game are "flat" (think paper-mario) and very colorful. The characters are all very unique with highly different styles of music. From Mr. Onionhead to the...

1.0 out of 5 stars seems fun at first, but the timing is screwed up and is very glitchy
i decided to try this game cause i have not played it in a long time, when playing the game on normal difficulty your timing has to be exact, maybe a little bit early. i cannot make it past the second level without failing on normal difficulty despite how accurate i was. now when you save your game, the menu is sensitive, you need to press the up down left right very...

5.0 out of 5 stars In the rain or in the snow, PaRappa's got the funk flow!, April 2, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Parappa the Rapper (Video Game)
I grew up playing this game, and when it came out I had never seen anything like it. As a music game, it is more about feeling the beat than watching the screen. The button timing is very well done. The graphics in the game are "flat" (think paper-mario) and very colorful. The characters are all very unique with highly different styles of music. From Mr. Onionhead to the Reggae Frog, this game will keep you singing long after you turn it off.

My personal favorite thing about this game is freestyling. You can press the buttons as you feel in time to "freestyle". If you get up to the level of "cool" then it's just you on stage, freestyling for a ton of points. Each levels "cool" stage is very different and unique and as you progress through the game, reaching the "cool" stage becomes quite difficult. While the game may appear short, if you love music games and will replay the same levels to reach each the status of "cool" on each level, you will have plenty of play time with this game. You just gotta believe this game is good.

You gotta do what?

I gotta believe!

4.0 out of 5 stars A very fun and very different type of game, August 22, 2006
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Parappa the Rapper (Video Game)
Befor eI got to play it, my brother kept on singing all the songs, and it bugged the crap out of me! so i picked up the controller and tried it myself, and i was amazed by how fun(ny) this game was. it's much like dance dance revolution where you have to prees the appropriate button to the beat. the songs are annoying and cool at the same time. the dialogue inbetween songs are very funny, and the storyline is great. the only problem i found was the poor grading scale, which lowered your grade sometimes even if you were really close to getting it right. so now whenever i play the song where parappa has to pee, i lose because you basically have to hit most of the buttons or you lose. i still have not beaten it, but to the point where i got, its a very addicting game and if you have a playstation, or a ps2 for that matter, i highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short But Fun, December 29, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Parappa the Rapper (Video Game)
The premise of the game is that you're PaRappa, a dog who raps his way through winning over the girl of his dreams, who happens to be...a sunflower? Rap your way through a garage sale, making a birthday cake, driving a car, and more.
The characters and situations are pretty funny, and get funnier if you mess up (especially the cake level.) The songs are ridiculously catchy and you may find yourself replaying levels just to hear the songs. The only downside to this game is that it is VERY short, and if you're good at rhythm-based games you can probably beat this one in a day. If you're looking for amazing graphics you may be disappointed, since the characters are all rendered as 2d cutouts, almost like a pop-up book. However, this is one of my favorite PSone games and if you like games that are a little on the silly side such as Katamari Damacy and Elite Beat Agents, this is a good game to buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addicting Game!, October 24, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Parappa the Rapper (Video Game)
I first thought that this game was too silly but when I tried it I got hooked! The game is much like Dance Dance Revolution. But you don't need a mat for this one. You basically get into the rhythm and the beat to move on to the next challenge. It is funny and entertaining. If you have a bunch of friends over you can really have a party with this one. As a solo game it is a one-of-a-kind laughter-inducing fun challenge. I highly recommend this for people who are looking for something fun and unique.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME, October 29, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Parappa the Rapper (Video Game)
Parappa the Rappa is the best game ever made by human hands. Seriously, the only person who could make a better game is Lord Jesus Christ himself and he only made one game and that's Valkyrie Profile, but this is like the second best game ever because you're like some dog and you rap about baking cakes and waiting in line to poop at a restroom all while trying to woo your own true love who is a flower or something. You don't even need acid to enjoy this acid trip. Seriously I have learned so much about rapping from this game that I am now a professional rapper and I have a record deal and everything. Kick, punch, it's all in the mind, unf.

1.0 out of 5 stars seems fun at first, but the timing is screwed up and is very glitchy, May 16, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Parappa the Rapper (Video Game)
i decided to try this game cause i have not played it in a long time, when playing the game on normal difficulty your timing has to be exact, maybe a little bit early. i cannot make it past the second level without failing on normal difficulty despite how accurate i was. now when you save your game, the menu is sensitive, you need to press the up down left right very quickly or it gets pressed more than once same problem with typing a letter

the game does have an easy mode which does solve the timing issue and make the game a bit more fun, but easy mode only plays the first 3 levels and it does not save, once you beat the 3rd level on easy mode it goes back to the title screen.

also the saved games glitch up, for some reason i cannot access the 2nd level when i got up to it on normal mode.

This is not a particularly exciting game, but it might be OK for little kids. I only bought it because it has a character in it named "Joe Chin," which happens to be my name.
