5.0 out of 5 stars More Aya, more beautiful music, October 16, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Parasite Eve II (Audio CD)
After buying the soundtrack to the first Parasite Eve game, I was not sure I wanted the second, as I was worried that a lot of the music was recycled. But after getting it, I realised that this was another fine album. The opening theme is the same, and the music for the police briefings uses the same tune (but slowed down!), but other than that it all seemd new and pretty impressive stuff. Highlights are the Gigantic Burner theme, a rumbling, doom-laden track that suits the monster in the game, and the New Age/Utopian mood of the ARK environment. Listen out for a couple of honky-tonk tracks that accompany the Dryfield town section, these show the skill and adaptability of the composer. But the real treats come towards the end with some aggressive and hypnotic techno soundscapes as Aya explores the underground laboratories. The final boss music is a stunning composition that caps this section perfectly. All in all, its another winner, amazingly I have seldom bought a game soundtrack that has been a real stinker, so I really recommend that more people discover this music genre. The Squaresoft games are usually among the most accomplished(like Final Fantasy), hence this is one of the best to start with.

4.0 out of 5 stars More ambient than not, August 6, 2002
This review is from: Parasite Eve II (Audio CD)
When I first got it, I was hoping for something along the lines of the first Parasite Eve soundtrack. I did play PE2 before I bought the soundtrack, so I should have known the soundtrack would be ambient than actual music. However, I wasn't very disappointed. Some of the songs *Forbidden Power, Gentle Rays and a few others come to mind* are simply fantastic. Plus, you also get two remixed tracks and a little omake of flint barking, which is kinda cute. All in all, a very nice soundtrack, however, if you don't like ambient music much, you might be disappointed.
