Book Description

April 2002
Detectives Hall Hawkins and Edward Clark of the 30th Precinct Homicide Division are assigned the daunting task of solving the brutal murders of the handsome, Exquisite Wheels owner, David Bass and his beautiful, fashion designer date, Kay Spencer. The case is every homicide detective's nightmare: a double murder with only one clue . . . corpses riddled with bullets from a .45.

Detective Hall Hawkins' stunning family friend, psychiatrist Samoa Tate, is introduced to the sophisticated and charming, Detective Edward Clark and finds herself embroiled in a love triangle that she alone knows all about and a murder mystery of which she is completely unaware.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Like her debut genre-crossing thriller Damaged!, Bernadette Y. Connor's The Parcel Express Murders focuses on the tumultuous private and professional life of a female psychiatrist. Samoa Tate helps patients cope with old wounds as she struggles to come to terms with her own absentee father. When there's a string of sensational local murders and Tate begins a tentative affair with a police detective, she finds herself wrapped up in the criminal investigation in more ways than one.

More About the Author

In Gillespie Junior High School in Philadelphia, my English teacher, Mrs. Miller, played Edgar A. Poe's poems on the phonograph in class and breathed life into the written word for me. To write words that begged to be heard became my goal. I wrote poetry for years and was finally blessed with publication in the SCLC(Southern Christian Leadership Conference) Magazine in the late 70s. Seeing that two-page spread encouraged me immensely, but life had its own ideas for me. In 1992, after many challenges and growth spurts I began to write my way out of a deep depression and instead of poems I had the beginnings of a novel, "Finally". Since then I have written thirteen novels and nine screenplays that all beg to be heard. "Damaged!", "The Parcel Express Murders", "Inherited", and "Pearl and Angela", are currently published by BEE-CON BOOKS, and are available in paperback or hardback. "Damaged!" has garnered me a listing in the 2004 Who's Who In America as the first African American to write and publish a psychological thriller in the fiction genre.

My recent release of "Sasha's New Beginning" as an E-book is available on Kindle. "Damaged!", "Inherited", "The Parcel Express Murders", and "Pearl and Angela" are also available on Kindle. I am currently working on a novel with a young man name Bruce Carthon, Jr., who has a rich and inspiring tale to share with readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars PARCEL EXPRESS REALLY DELIVERS!!, October 2, 2002
By
Regina Patterson (Ebony Expressions Book Club, DE) - See all my reviews
Bernadette Connor gives us the goods AGAIN with her second psychotic saga, this time a murder mystery centering around beautiful psychiatrist, Somoa Tate and Detective Eddie Clark who are both involved (unknowingly) in this case of murders. Without giving away the plot, this mystery has all the intrigue of a nail biting tale, but with the added flavor of "SOUL FOOD". While I loved the roller coaster ride as the two dectectives solve a murder and balance their love lives at the same time. You'll NEVER guess "who done it"!!! Kudos! to Ms. Connor for sharing her literary genius for the discriminating reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Parcel Express Murders Rocks!!, August 6, 2011
I have read thousands of books in my life time. So many murder mysteries that I thought I knew every plot that has ever been thought about, or written. I give Bernadette Y. Connors many kudos for creating a murder mystery that had me stumped! I was totally into the characters and the plot had me riveted. Ms. Connors creates characters that come alive and drag you into their story so that you are on pin and needles during the entire story. This novel had me kicking myself; I was so involved in the story I missed the obvious hints that could had led me to the why of the murders. Believe me this is a can't put it down until it's finished novel! Read it while it's hot! Read it before your best friend tells you the ending! This book is a winner!

4.0 out of 5 stars You don't need to love mysteries to love this book!, January 19, 2006
This review is from: The Parcel Express Murders (Paperback)
I don't like murder mysteries. I don't like romance novels. But I loved this book! To understand why, just read the opening few pages of this wonderful tale of intrigue, murder, old wounds and new loves. Author Bernadette Y. Connor does a great job of developing a strong plot and memorable characters to deliver an exciting and emotionally charged story.

Like her debut novel, Damaged!, the story focuses on a psychiatrist. Dr. Samoa Tate finds herself involved in both the investigation of a series of grisly murders and a budding romance with the primary investigator on the case. Dr. Tate, though smart, rational, and sensitive, has deep issues regarding relationships that stem from her childhood, and this complicates the already complex chemistry between the two.

The actual mystery begins with the murder of a prominent Philadelphia businessman and his mistress, and soon the bodies start to pile up. With enough twists and turns to make even the most die-hard mystery fan wonder who-dun-it, Connor spins a great story.

What I appreciated most about this book is that, while it will definitely appeal to both fans of mysteries and fans of romance, Connor avoids all the clique stereotypes that have been overdone in both genres and creates a truly original work.
