5.0 out of 5 stars EVERY one needs to know!
Every person alive can benefit from reading this book. I've just finished it & already see improvement between me and my 3 teens(and feel more forgiving toward my own parents, teachers). Parent Effectiveness Training translates into ALL relationships and makes them BETTER! Thank you a MILLION times.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only, for healthy families
Excellent in theory. Wonderful when it works. Requires great intelligenceself-discipline and great and subtle paradigm shifts. In actual practice quite disapointing. When it works it is what being a parent is all about. Would love to hear from those who have had better results than I have. Idealogically I'm there real life, welllllll

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly effective., June 5, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Parent Effectiveness Training (Paperback)
This "how-to" text will teach you how to transform the relationship with your children. Into the trash bin go punishment, rewards, parental authority and childhood/adolescent rebellion. Instead, you elicit cooperation from your children by telling them how their behavior affects you. You help your children to solve their own problems by becoming a good listener. It may sound Utopian or even air-headed, but it's been around for a long time and has worked for thousands of parents. It's working for me, ending years of banging my head against the wall. Avoid the risk of getting fired as parent by your kids. Read this book and try its techniques

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read!, September 3, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Parent Effectiveness Training (Paperback)
I read this book in a communications class in junior college. I do not have kids, but it is the foundation of the way I relate to people and to my students. So many people do not know how to talk with others without blaming. This book shows you how to own your power and let others have theirs, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars PET a powerful tool for living at peace with your children., September 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Parent Effectiveness Training (Paperback)
I have used this book personally and shared it with at least 50 other people. Mr. Gordon's book is timeless. It does not suggest a particular style of discipline but explains that parents and children can learn to communicate and respect each other. This is done by learning and practicing some very practical skills.

5.0 out of 5 stars RE: having empowering, clean relationship...Excellent!!!, August 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Parent Effectiveness Training (Paperback)
This is perhaps the best book I have ever read. The information is brilliant. I employed these skills and insights and attained wonderful results. This book really outlines a way of life. One of empowering as opposed to controlling. I highly recommend it, and have given it to several friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Certainly one of the best books on parenting ever written, October 25, 1999
By A Customer

Tom Gordon's communication and problem solving based approach to raising children is undoubtedly one of the most powerful aids ever devised. The book alone is not enough. Communication and solving problems is behavior and it has to be learned and practiced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I've Desperately Needed!!, August 1, 2004
This review is from: Parent Effectiveness Training (Paperback)
If you don't feel closeness with your child, can't get them to open up even with the kindest efforts, feel like you can't imagine why your relationship isn't good because of all the love you give, and your child would rather spend time with the computer than with you, and they won't listen to you....YOU NEED THIS! I was able to understand instantly the unintentional messages I have been sending! I've read MANY parenting books, never have the results been so immediate--almost magic, and so simple to understand and use. In four days, while still reading, I used/practiced the techniques described--and my 15 year old has responded with profound openess and helpfulness. Because I am respecting his needs as a person (and have learned how to comunicate this), he is in turn respecting my needs! Brilliant! Buy it at ANY cost!!

I found this book very helpful. I learned what a difference it makes, in which way you communicate with your child and with other people. It had a very positive impact on my relationship to my children and other people. I highly recommend it.
