5.0 out of 5 stars I DON'T AGREE WITH THE OTHER REVIEWER
I am a single mom and my best friend bought this book for me. Because I am a new mom I don't know any of the authors out there. All of the books were confusing because I didn't know whose advice to take. Parent School is full of different advice by different experts so you get a taste of each of their beliefs. 1.0 out of 5 stars Only read if you are a stay at home mom...
This book favors the stay at home mom/parent who sacrifices their sense of self for their child and makes the working parent feel indequate. Very much not what I expected. Many of the short essays seem like they were written at the last minute with no thought to meet the deadline requirement.

5.0 out of 5 stars I DON'T AGREE WITH THE OTHER REVIEWER, April 17, 2002
I am a single mom and my best friend bought this book for me. Because I am a new mom I don't know any of the authors out there. All of the books were confusing because I didn't know whose advice to take. Parent School is full of different advice by different experts so you get a taste of each of their beliefs. I've already bought Nancy Samalin's book because all of her information was in the back of Parent School. Because of Parent School I was able to pick an expert I really like and buy her book.
Parent School is a MUST-HAVE because for those of us who don't have a clue who the experts are this is the BEST PLACE TO START.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Gift, April 3, 2002
By A Customer
Once I saw this book, I knew I had found the perfect gift for new parents, and parents just looking for some advice. What a great idea. Finally, a resource that teaches parents the lessons that they wished they had learned in school. Leading experts in the field provide their opinions on parenting, organized in an easy to follow lesson plan. Two close friends of mine just had babies and I plan to send each one of them this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential, March 25, 2002
By
Jeff Kagan (Lake Worth, FL) - See all my reviews
Parent School is an essential guide for parents with kids of all ages. This book is different than other parenting books because it offers varying advice from many experts. You receive information from many different voices instead of one author.

As parents of a young boy we have found this book to offer practical advice along with reassuring thoughts and encouragement as we try to raise an emotionally healthy child.

The manner in which the book is written is excellent since each chapter offers advice in a straight-to-the-point way. There is no fluff - just practical information.

We found this book to be an amazing collection. It is far superior to the myriad of medicore material available. This may be the holy grail of parenting books.

5.0 out of 5 stars I want to buy this book for every parent I know., February 9, 2006
It is for EVERY kind of parent -- those who work outside of the home AND those who stay home to work; fathers AND mothers; single parents AND parents who share responsibilities. I've read many parenting books and I've never actually priced one to see if I could afford to buy it for all my friends. But this book is full of so much wisdom -- real gems from people who have BEEN THERE! Each article is well-written and full of heart-felt wisdom from all different kinds of parents. I read one article a day so I can reflect on it and look at how the ideas are manifested in my parenting and how I can be a better parent. Every new parent should receive a copy of this book as soon as the child arrives home!

4.0 out of 5 stars Contributing Author to Parent School shares her thoughts..., June 26, 2002
Any book that generates pride and courage for the important career of raising kids has my "thumbs up." As contributing author (p. 253) to this book I applaud its efforts to collect
wisdom from various childrearing experts and share it with
parents. As author of an easy read for early childhood parents, PARENTING POWER IN THE EARLY YEARS, I know that "easy" books are the hard ones to write! I hope you find Parent School that way. For parents everywhere, take advantage of the many good resources available today. As I say to my audiences, "there's no one right way to parent" so do your best with the information you have, but continue to gather information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now put all the other parent guides back on the bookshelf !, March 7, 2002

This is the only one I need now, this is the one I keep on the nightstand so I can refer to it. I put all the other parenting books back on the shelf. The broad range of topics all under the same cover makes it the best refernce to use! Now when my friends have their first child, this is the book I will give them.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Parent School: Simple Lessons from Leading Experts on Being a Mom and Dad (Paperback)
I purchased this book for my expectant daughter who read it and felt it was a "breath" of fresh air ....there was a palpable reasonableness in showing differing perspectives on various child rearing issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book!, March 5, 2002
By A Customer
This is an amazing book! It is a truly great compilation of the best of the best parenting advice. Since my dream of all high schools and colleges having parenting classes has not yet been realized, at least there is "Parenting School". My only regret is that this book did not come out years ago, because it would have saved me a bunch of money.

If you buy only one parenting book, buy this one (and your children will even thank you for it!).

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Parenting Book, March 5, 2002
By
Rachel Underwood (San Diego, California USA) - See all my reviews
As new parents, my husband and I want to get it right the first time. We received quite a few of the top child care books for the baby shower upon coming home from the hospital. There's so much information, so much to read, and so little time. We joked that it would be great if our family and friends read the books for us and highlighted the most important parts. Well, that's what "PARENT SCHOOL: Simple Lessons from the Leading Experts on Being a Mom & Dad" does, in a way -- it's one complete volume that is made up of only the most important information that all the other parenting authors have to offer. It's like reading only the best parts from all the other best-selling books! It's really easy to read, since each "lesson" from each expert is only a few pages long (and their advice was written just for this book). It's amazing what you can learn in just a few minutes ever day. The "school for moms & dads" idea is very clever and fun ... and the many well-known authors who wrote the book give readers genuinely helpful and unexpected gifts in each of the school lessons. We recommend PARENT SCHOOL as a present for new parents (they don't need a bunch of books, just this one) and it's valuable for seasoned parents as well!
