Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Herman, a child psychiatrist and specialist in custody suits, provides a child-centered approach to divorce and custody proceedings. Because almost all children experience adverse psychological symptoms during this time, Herman shows parents how to keep their children's best interests continually in mind. He reviews child placement conflicts, suggests alternatives to custody battles, and discusses the events leading up to a final court decision. Whatever the outcome, Herman stresses the importance of expediting legal disputes and resolving animosities in the post-divorce relationship. Using case histories, he takes a critical look at the types of problems that may develop and offers practical advice on how to regain stability and happiness. This book should be required reading for all divorcing parents. It is highly recommended for public libraries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Parents should read this before the custody battle, May 19, 2001
This review is from: Parent Vs. Parent (Hardcover)
A custody battle is a massive stress in the life of a growing child. Sometimes, however, a parent finds that he or she is unable to resolve a dispute in any other way. What can a conscientious parent to to protect the child during this difficult and often lengthy ordeal?

Dr. Herman discusses the process of a custody battle and gives advice on how to deal with this difficult situation while doing one's best to look out for the best interests of one's child. He covers many topics including dealing with expert witnesses, your day in court, joint custody, visitation, and handling one's feelings after losing a custody battle. Dr. Herman clearly cares for the well-being of all family members and tries to be complete and even-handed.

Carol E. Watkins, M.D.
