Jeremy Boone's new book, Parent Your Best is magnetic. Why? The author reaches out to parents in a positive, realistic and engaging manner, providing a "self-coaching guide for parents."
What? Jeremy teaches and illustrates the difference between merely communicating with your child (let's compare it to hitting a singe) to actually connecting with your child (hitting a home run) - and the difference between the two!
How? "Parent Your Best" is designed to take one strategy at a time - and build a true game plan within the sports family. Easy reading, questions, games, links for additional exercises, and opportunities to share online are only a few methods used to help build a better relationship between the parent(s) and the child.
Who? Based on the book's approach, style and size, the material can easily be utilized by working parents as well - whether on a plane, in a hotel room or together in the family dining room.
"Parent Your Best" illustrates how to create a supportive, life-long relationship with your child that extends far beyond the playing field. In fact, this book can reach far beyond the sports arena; these strategies are useful for parents in any competitive arena.

Great Read! April 20, 2011
Format:Paperback
As with most parents, my husband and I do our best to be good sports parents for our middle school daughter. We attend every game and make sure she knows we are proud of her.

One of the great parts about this book is that it isn't written for parents who end up in jail for punching the umpire or another parent. It is for the ordinary parent, like me, who is just trying to make their child's sport experience be the best it can be. It didn't make me feel guilty or feel like I need to be the "perfect" parent, which is where I end up at the end of most parenting books.

Instead, it gave practical, real life situations and strategies that I could relate to and use. The author provides a comprehensive section that is focused on sports parent traps. Instead of just telling the reader about all the mistakes they make, he provided realistic solutions.

The most encouraging parts of the book for me was the section that challenged me to ask the question, "who does my daughter need me to be?" After using the exercises at the end of the chapter, I realized that who I thought she needed me and my husband to be was quite different than what we had thought. It was a surprise to me since my daughter and I are a close, I assumed I knew what she needed from us. Being able to have these conversations has created more openness and honesty in our conversations - not just about sports, but in other areas as well.

Using the approaches given in this book has strengthened the relationship we have with our daughter and given her a lot more confidence and joy in playing sports. The best part about this book is that all of the principles and truths can be used in other areas of parenting. I would highly recommend this book to any parent who has a child who is currently participating in sports.
