5.0 out of 5 stars Radio personality, Jonne Santoli praises Parenting Power
I have been a parent for 10 years to three wonderful boys. There have been times that I wish I could have had more information about raising children when they were younger. "Parenting Power The Early Years"helps with these crucial ages. The best advice I could give parents is to have more trust in themselves. You get so much advice as a first time parent...

1.0 out of 5 stars Too little information
I just received this book and find it way too brief. Yes I like succinct, easy reads, but I also like information. I find that no subject is covered in enough detail. I bought it hoping for help with beginning to teach my one year old early lessons, but it has not helped me.

I have been a parent for 10 years to three wonderful boys. There have been times that I wish I could have had more information about raising children when they were younger. "Parenting Power The Early Years"helps with these crucial ages. The best advice I could give parents is to have more trust in themselves. You get so much advice as a first time parent it makes you question yourself. I know I did, but then by child 3 I said "OK, I understand what you are saying" but then I said to myself,"The kids are fine I am the parent so leave me alone!" Brenda Nixon's book wants parents to believe in themselves! Face it, being a parent is never easy, but this book is a resource that will help give you information maybe you didn't know about. I also like the book because I am a mom,and on the radio, and I do not have alot of extra time to read complicated textbook type writing. This is an easy read that is meant to simplify parenting not make it more complex. And believe me with 3 boys, I do not need more complexity in life!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical Advise Others Never Tell You, August 8, 2002

This review is from: Parenting Power in the Early Years: Raising Your Child with Confidence -- Birth to Age Five (Paperback)
Brenda Nixon gives practical advice from personal experience that most parently classes fail to share. Her helpful hints and sharing form her own experience as a mom should let any first-time mom know she is normal in her feelings and reactions.
I particularly like the appendix that gives places to go for more help on partlicular subjects.
I wish I could have had her book to read when I had my first child 27 years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must Read" for Any Parent of Young Children, July 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Parenting Power in the Early Years: Raising Your Child with Confidence -- Birth to Age Five (Paperback)
Now here's a parent-friendly "must read!" Brenda Nixon's PARENTING POWER IN THE EARLY YEARS is full of motivating ideas and solutions presented in a confident and buoyant way. No heavy textbook stuff in this book! Easy to read. It's perfect for a dad who wants to quickly dip into a section during a TV commercial. Then he might just feel more equipped the next time his kid trys a tantrum.

I especially liked the "Ready for Kindergarten?" section and the creative ideas for "Relief from Cabin Fever." Now I have a good book to give any new mom or dad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best little Cliff Notes on parenting yet!, February 19, 2003
This review is from: Parenting Power in the Early Years: Raising Your Child with Confidence -- Birth to Age Five (Paperback)
What to do about separation anxiety, how to find quality childcare, effective discipline using positive talk or consequences, potty training, thumb-sucking, raising responsible kids, getting them ready for Kindergarten...it's all in here! This is the best Cliff Notes on how to raise a child in the first five years that I've ever found! Even in the back of the book there's tips for giving the right age appropriate gift, and a child development key so you know if yours is acting normal and resources for more indepth reading. I especially found the suggested websites helpful. How many books do you find that give more information about other websites and resources to continue your learning? Parenting POwer has it all. I'm so glad I found this treasure and plan to reread it several more times in the coming years.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT BOOK FOR PARENTS & GRANDPARENTS, November 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Parenting Power in the Early Years: Raising Your Child with Confidence -- Birth to Age Five (Paperback)
I really enjoyed looking at this book. I had six kids of my own and although they are grown now, I could remember so many of the things that this book talked about. Her advice would have helped me many times I am certain. My now grown five tell their own offspring that "Grandma always locked us outside with peanut butter and jelly when we were bad!" I must have done something right as they are all five beautiful caring adults today. I will get a copy of this book for them to use in raising my now 16 grandchildren . . .with inflation the book is much more reasonably priced than peanut butter, and much more interesting to digest.

All kidding aside this is a wonderful book. It would make a wonderful gift for a new parent, grandparent, or even child care centers. Brenda writes from experience and that is the best kind of writing. Be sure to read it!

This review is from: Parenting Power in the Early Years: Raising Your Child with Confidence -- Birth to Age Five (Paperback)
A fantastic book for both parents and those planning in the near or distant future. Brenda Nixon's approach is easy to follow and understand. The book provides very practical tips on common problems, such as a child who bites or fears that you may not be a competent parent. It also leaves the reader feeling empowered, capable of raising a child no matter who you are. I highly recommend this book to all who are, or are thinking of becoming parents. I do not currently have children, but I feel more prepared now that I have read this for what may lie ahead. This will be a definate gift for all my pregnant friends!

This review is from: Parenting Power in the Early Years: Raising Your Child with Confidence -- Birth to Age Five (Paperback)
Brenda Nixon's practical and easy-to-follow advice would be a wonderful gift to expecting parents or those who already have a houseful of kids! I had the pleasure of interviewing Brenda for a national daily radio program, and the kindness and faith behind her words makes every idea even more helpful. Here's someone who knows what parenting is like and is willing to help you discover all the joys God has in store for you as a mom or a dad. If you're looking for some relief from the pressures of parenting, this is the book for you!
