3.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Dated
It's time for the authors to update this valuable resource. I took a STEP for Children study 8 years ago, and was excited to follow up with the Teen version. However, there are many references to things like limiting the use of the dial up computer time so as not to tie up the house phone. With a few careful updates to make it more 2011+, this could once again be...

5.0 out of 5 stars It really works!, January 15, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Parenting Teenagers (Paperback)
I have found that Parenting Teenagers(STEP) to be one of the best books available to find practical and real solutions to parenting today's teenager. I have used the STEP model with my own son, now 19, and it helped us not only with setting boundaries but also improved our communications with each other. I have had several friends who have also used this with their teens and they like it. It's definitely a book that any parent of a teen should try to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A child-rearing handbook you can't live without, January 30, 1999
By A Customer
As a parent of a child diagnosed as ADHD, and even bi-polar, when all else failed, I found Parenting Teenagers to be the hand book I had searched for. Taken as a class with a weekly discussion group I finally have the tools to help my child without "Toxic Phsyciatry".

4.0 out of 5 stars Parenting Teenagers: Systematic Training for Effective Parenting of Teens, March 9, 2007
I thought the book was very informative,it lets a parent look at somethings in a different way and helps with better communication between the parent and the teenager. I thought some things were very helpful and some were a little tough to go with, I still feel some rules of grounding are still old fashion rules but they do work and you need to keep them guided on the right track towards their future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Parenting book, August 3, 2008
By
Dinkmeyer's parenting books for children and for teens are the best I've used as a parenting expert. The books are easy to understand and put into practice. The parenting principle is based on the "Father of Parenting" - Rudolph Dreikurs. Any book on the use of natural and logical consequences is a spin off of Dreikurs' work. Dr. Don Dinkmeyer was a student of Dreikurs. His books have had great popularity by those who know about parenting counseling.

5.0 out of 5 stars love this book, April 21, 2010

It's mostly common sense but there are tons of parents out their that are too busy to plug in to what their kids are doing. I loved this book because it is simple and makes a difference. We, as parents, owe it to our kids to share family dinners and make everyday special to them in some way. They need to learn there are consequences to their actions and they don't always get want they want. This book is great.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Dated, September 13, 2011

It's time for the authors to update this valuable resource. I took a STEP for Children study 8 years ago, and was excited to follow up with the Teen version. However, there are many references to things like limiting the use of the dial up computer time so as not to tie up the house phone. With a few careful updates to make it more 2011+, this could once again be useful to parents. As it is, it feels dated & therefore, not a good choice for my small group.
