Editorial Reviews

Review

“Shannon attempts to keep the diagnostic-labeling fad at bay by highlighting the importance of examining the whole child. . . . As a child and adolescent healthcare provider, I support the way Shannon encourages the public to think about children and their brains in nuanced terms and to take a holistic approach to their well-being. . . . Shannon has written a must-read for parents.” (PsychCentral)

“A tremendously important book . . . wonderfully clear and well written and easy to read and learn from.” (Edward M. Hallowell, MD, author of The Childhood Roots of Adult Happiness: Five Steps to Help Kids Create and Sustain Lifelong Joy)

“Wonderful, practical, down-to-earth, and easy to read. . . . I will recommend this book with great enthusiasm to my colleagues and patients.” (Kathi Kemper, MD, MPH, director, Center for Integrative Health and Wellness and professor of pediatrics, Ohio State University; author of Mental Health Naturally)

A brilliant, much-needed book that celebrates the diversity of our children (and the plasticity of the young brain) by refusing to label the young among us who may be sensitive, or inadequately cared for, or simply misunderstood. Dr. Shannon is an advocate for the inherent wellness of our children. We need his message.

Refreshingly practical on a rather high level and a wonderful forerunner to the Mental Health for the Whole Child by the same author. A wonderful asset for parents and all in the 'child industry', including teachers and parents - many of whom are also parents, of course. Medicos. please have a read.
