5.0 out of 5 stars Parenting Without Pressure, April 4, 2000

I highly recommend this book to anyone with teenagers or pre-teens. My husband and I have implemented the techniques in this book and have seen an improvement in the atmosphere in our home. The book teaches how to start letting go of our children and begin letting them make their own decisions so that they will be ready for the real world. It tells you how to let the natural consequences of their decisions teach them valuable lessons that they cannot argue with. Since beginning to use the suggestion of conducting a weekly family meeting, our household has become more peaceful and we are able to enjoy each other more and fight less. I have recommended this book to several friends and recommend it to you also.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lifesaver of a book, March 4, 2002
I am indebted to Teresa Langston for coming up with such a terrific approach to dealing with strong willed teens. I used this system with my two high school daughters. They did not like it at all at first and were always trying to figure out ways to beat the system - but they found out that violating boundaries had a consequence.
From the minute we started the system, I felt empowered as a parent. Finally we as parents had some guidelines for these turbulent teen times, real consequences and incentives for good behavior.
Now my teenagers are both in their twenties and contributing members of society. We are also best friends again. We look back on those days of struggling and we talk about those times as adults now. It's a bitter sweet memory. Life is good now. Thank you Teresa.

Teresa's book would have come in handy as we raised our teenage children. The book is a wealth of practical, tested, non-threatening, workable ideas that restore peace and harmony to a family. Parenting Without Pressure requires consistency and commitment but the outcome will be worth the effort. Children will learn responsibility and accountability and parents will learn what a blessing their children can be and that family is something to cherish and nurture. An excellent tool that provides help and hope.

I wish I had read this book years ago. We all strive to be good parents, and there are some ideas in this book that I had never thought of. Best of all, it's an account of a "real" family's triumph over adversity.
