This book is very informative, easy to read, and has great lists of milestones/development to look for in your child. If you already know that your child is delayed, and your child already receives services, you really don't need this book. This is more for a parent who's child has not been identified as delayed, but you have a suspicion he/she may be delayed.

A must have resource for anyone who wishes to learn more about identifying and parenting babies and children with developmental delays. The quality of the identification and explanation of the various types of delays and disabilities is exceptional and will be useful to any parent who is worried about these issues. Normal development, indications of problems, specific examples, parenting suggestions, and treatment are presented in each chapter in a well thought out and informative manner. The overall tone of the book is encouraging and supportive for parents who are concerned about their children. This book provides a wealth of information for parents and professionals. It would be an invaluable addition to any library and for any teacher, doctor or therapist who works with parents.

I am loving this book. I am about half-way through. I am going to be working in Early Intervention and this book has been so informational! It is very easy to understand and is very well written. I would definately suggest this book to anyone who wants or needs to know more about Developmental Delays.

This book is okay if you're wondering where your child should be and if he/she is on track, or are at the first stages of diaganosing a delay. If you are beyond that and certainly if you are seasoned vetrans in the developmental delay category then I do not recommend it. We got the book a little late for it to be much help for us.

Our son, who is 3 1/2, was recently diagnosed with multiple issues (low muscle tone, sensory processing disorder and gross and fine motor delays) -- and I had been saying for well over a year that he "just didn't quite seem like other kids." No one else saw what I meant -- not my husband, not my parents or my in-laws ... but I just KNEW something was a little different about him.

If that's how you feel, then "A Parent's Guide" is a great book to start with. It shows you what the major red flags are at certain ages in all developmental areas (language, gross and fine motor, sensory, etc.) It shows you how to make a detailed list of what your concerns are and what your child does that's making you concerned. It tells you exactly who to contact about pursuing a diagnosis for your child, and it shows you what a typical session might like look for different services -- a special education classroom, an occupational therapy session, a speech therapy session, etc. It also illustrates the examples with lots of stories about children who are dealing with these particular issues.

The ONLY reason I don't feel I can give the book five stars is because I thought the chapter on sensory processing was incomplete. It discusses children who are hypo- and hyper-sensitive to different sensations but neglects to discuss "sensory-seeking" children (that's what my son is). If I hadn't already read "The Out of Sync Child" and some other online resources, I wouldn't have known from the chapter in this book that SPD was a possibility for my son.

Book was the correct one but upon inspection find 1/3 of one page is torn out of book other than that all was perfect. good shipping etc.
