It is a comprehensive guide to over 300 private schools, public school districts and charter schools. It lists nearly every private primary school in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, as well as high schools in San Francisco. This book provides vignettes demonstrating the importance of considering a child's individual needs when selecting a school. It describes schools that specialize in helping children with special needs, and it clarifies the role of psychological evaluations in school selection. Finally, the book lists API scores and SAT scores, names winners of state and national school recognition programs and includes school websites and websites that provide school data. Co-author Nancy Ginsburg Gill is a teacher, education writer and consultant, who for over twenty-five years has helped parents through the school selection process. Co-author Brendan Pratt, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and pediatric neuropsychologist specializing in educational and psychological evaluations of children and adolescents.

As a school teacher, I use this book as a resource. It is valuable for realtors and school job seekers as well as parents. This edition is even better with several new features, such as current websites and test scores. It is clearly written and comprehensive. I like the personal touch of including case histories of four families and how they considered each factor which ultimately guided them to appropriate school selection. The section on how to evaluate a school is particularly useful. I highly recommend this new edition.

Covering both public and private schools, this book provides much more information than other school guides I've used. The authors have obviously conducted an exhaustive search of available statistics, which they have summarized clearly and succinctly. Highly recommended.
