Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book should not only be required reading for parents with kids in high school, it should be required reading for every parent before their kids start school. There is little doubt if most parents would take the time to read this valuable little tome, the school experience for kids would be a far better one."

 --- San Francisco Book Review

"Rashoff uses her considerable experience (33 years as a high school counselor) to provide practical advice in this no-nonsense guidebook for parents and students. Rashoff's tone is compassionate but firm, and she uses snappy, memorable comparisons to get her points across, while employing advice from families who have successfully navigated high school."

--- Publishers Weekly

From the Back Cover

Thanks to her 33 years of dedicated work as a high school guidance counselor, few education professionals are better qualified than author Karyn Rashoff to identify, analyze and resolve the complex interactions between students, their parents, and their teachers, tutors and coaches. Nearly 20,000 counseling interactions have pointed to specific behaviors for school success.

The school counselor's job is to reconcile the sometimes disparate desires of students and those of their parents and educators. This goal is difficult to reach under the best of conditions, yet the author's keen observations of history, eartbreak and hope have yielded a book that will most certainly help to guide parents, comfort students, and encourage educators.

This unique book makes major contributions to fundamental aspirations of personal growth, eventual career success, and societal harmony. And education is the key to it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Guide for Parents! September 11, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is full of excellent information not only for high school parents but for all parents who strive to raise successful students I feel. The stories and advice given here from parents, students, teachers, counselors, and others are put together in an easy to read format. The thought provoking questions at the end of each chapter reinforce what the author is trying to get across with each section. "Successful parenting doesn't depend on family income or the educational level of the parents. Instead, success comes from establishing and maintaining a consistent policy-one that both the parent(s) and student(s) fully agree upon-plus lots of loving reinforcement." I definitely recommend this fabulous book to all parents. Thank you for sharing Karyn!

5.0 out of 5 stars Parents in Highschooland September 18, 2014

Format:Paperback
Even though I am WAY off from having a child enter high school, I am eager to help my son get as much out of school as possible. This book is incredibly well rounded, offering tips for parents that we can apply the moment (or even before) our child enters school. I wish this book had been around for my parents! I will keep this one in my library to help encourage me when things get rough, and as a reminder to choose the high road, no matter how frustrating the process can be. I will also be recommending this book to my friend who has a son about to enter high school next year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, must-read book for parents of teens! September 28, 2014
Format:Paperback
What a book! Rashoff breaks down her advice into easy-to-read sections with real-world examples from parents and teachers on what worked (and what didn't) when it came to raising their teenagers. I am keeping this book for years to come as my kids approach the high school and teenage years. So many lessons to be learned and creative ideas to try! Learn about NAGI, setting expectations on the grade/report card front, curfews, and understanding your teenager. Excellent resource for parents and even teachers/counselors!

I received a complimentary copy of this book for the purposes of my review.

Format:Kindle Edition
I felt like this book would be a great read for high school parents as well as other parents for younger kids who are involved with their children's learning.

This book is filled with advice from educators and is extremely interesting to apply or compare to my child's learning. I feel like many parents could benefit from this book and should read it especially with a child in high school.

We all know parenting has its challenges and any guidance from others is great.

I highly recommend this book
