About the Author

Sandra Hardin Gookin, co-author of Parenting For Dummies, 2nd Edition, has a degree in speech communications from Oklahoma State University. Her communications background and experience in parenting methods have been the basis for her parenting theories. She is the mother of four boys.

Dan Gookin, co-author of Parenting For Dummies, 2nd Edition, has written more than 75 books about computers, and his works have been translated into 34 languages. Dan wrote the first For Dummies book (and many after that), so the light, humorous, and informative style of For Dummies books is Dan’s style. He is the father of four boys.

Marlene Targ Brill, author of Raising Smart Kids For Dummies, is an early childhood specialist, special educator, and mother. Her background of multiple degrees in education, 13 years of teaching and training other teachers, and practical experience on the home front contribute to her parenting focus and practical suggestions.

Marion Peterson, MFT, co-author of Single Parenting For Dummies, has experienced divorce, single parenting, and blended family life firsthand. She has a master’s degree in clinical psychology; is a Licensed Marriage, Family and Child Therapist; is certified in Scientific Marital Therapy; and has facilitated many groups, including those for Parents in Pain, single parents, and women in transition.

Diane Warner, co-author of Single Parenting For Dummies, writes for magazines, newspapers, and Web sites, and is the best-selling author of 21 books. She is also a professional speaker and has made appearances on national television and radio, including Discovery Channel, CNN, and Home & Garden TV.

Diane Stafford, co-author of Potty Training For Dummies, taught high school journalism and English and then became a writer/editor, serving as editor-in-chief of many publications, including Health & Fitness Magazine and Texas Woman Magazine. She has won awards for health writing, and now edits and writes books.

Jennifer Shoquist, MD, co-author of Potty Training For Dummies, is a family practice physician and serves as a health-issues resource for journalists. She completed her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, followed by family-practice residency at Memorial Southwest Hospital.

Sue Fox, author of Etiquette For Dummies, is the Founder and President of Etiquette Survival, Inc. (formerly The Workshoppe) and ESK Publishing Group (a California-based professional development and publishing company). She provides group training and private consultations to business professionals, corporations, children, and educational institutions. She is the mother of two sons.

Sandra Blackthorn has a degree in journalism from Indiana University and has been involved with For Dummies books since 1992, serving first as a project editor, senior editor, and editorial manager, and now as a freelance writer and consultant. She is the mother of two children.
