These sturdy, well-made jars are suited to a wide range of canning tasks, and many people think that they look rather nice as well, making them very popular among cooks all over the world. Good Le Parfait jars can get costly, but some people feel that it is worth the expense, as these jars are known for being extremely reliable and very easy to use. Le Parfait jars really are perfect for a lot of things, thanks to their design. A classic Le Parfait jar has a lid mounted on a wire hinge, with a locking lever to fasten the lid to the top of the jar. A rubber o-ring is inserted into the lid as a gasket, creating an airtight seal inside the jar which will hold until the lever is lifted, breaking the seal. It is also possible to find Le Parfait jars with screw-on caps. For canning, these jars are extremely useful. and because they are clear, it is easy to see the contents of the jar. They can also be used for more general kitchen storage; until cooks are ready to use the contents of the jar, and they can be easily re-sealed. You can also use Le Parfait jars for freezing, although you should be careful to leave a gap at the top of the jar to allow the contents to expand. If the jar lacks sufficient expansion room, it will explode when the contents freeze all the way, since the seal is too strong to allow the jar to simply pop open. Some people also use Le Parfait jars with special gaskets to make fermented foods; in this case, the gasket allows gas to escape from the jar, but not to enter it. The basic design of Le Parfait jars may not be terribly innovative or remarkable, but it has become associated with quality, both because the jars are often of very good quality and because they have become popular with gourmets around the world. Many kitchen supply stores sell Le Parfait jars, and you can also order them from companies which specialize in imported French kitchen supplies.

home naturals wont return my calls! Jars are knockoffs, and have chipped.,

Seller will not return my calls or voice mails. They told me to contact the original manufacturer to get a replacement. When I requested the phone number of the OEM they told me they would find it and asked me to call back in an hour. That was a month ago, today is the 2nd of October 2010. I have left a dozen voice mails and have not heard from them. Each time I have called since I have not gotten through to a person, always a lis tof options and then off to voice mail.
I purchased a set of these incredibly durable jars from Home Naturals in Jan of 2010. Since then all of them have chipped!, Today is Sept. 10th, but I first contacted Home Naturals two months ago concerning this issue. Each time the chip has occurred where the glass lid and the rubber grommet meet! Description of the jars. - (Glass lid then a Rubber Grommet then the Glass base) See Picture If it were glass on glass then I could understand how this could happen, but if that is how they were designed I wouldn't have purchased them. Le Parfait jars have been renowned for their inherent strength and durability, but not the set I purchased, nor the replacement I purchased when I "thought" the damage could have been my fault. My mother has had a set of Le Parfait jars for 25 years and has not had a problem with them, except the grommets I replaced for her a few months ago. I contacted Home Naturals in order to have them replaced, but they would not replace them! I provided photos of the damage to prove where the chipping had occurred. The customer service woman was nice, and told me she understood the issue and agreed that they should not chip as the result of closing the lids as they were designed to do. But to no avail, they wouldn't replace because "Amazon policy only requires them to replace the product if the defective part breaks within the first two months of ownership". This review is the result of seven phone calls and a tireless effort to persuade Home Naturals to replace the jars. I offered to ship them back to them so they could contact Le Parfait here in the US for a reimbursement. Instead they told me to contact the distributor here in the US, GA., and speak to them, placing the burden of dealing with a distributor on my shoulders. They have the ability to receive a refund or replacement from the distributor as they have the leverage to do so. I will not purchase anything else from Home Naturals, their lack of response and consideration does nothing to instill confidence in their company. It might be cheaper, but now you know where that money went.

These canning jars are .5, .75, 1, 1.5, and 2 liter sizes. They come with the gasket and hinged fastening lid. The glass is sturdy and good quality, as are the lids, fasteners, and gaskets.
They are easy to clean. I am very pleased with this product and will be buying more. They are excellent for canning. I also use them for storing dried pasta, rice, flour, sugar, cereals, nuts, etc. They keep your stored dry products dry and fresh. They also keep any hungry bugs out. The larger sizes are also great for storing my sourdough starter in the refrigerator.
