Product Description

These sturdy, well-made jars are suited to a wide range of canning tasks, and many people think that they look rather nice as well, making them very popular among cooks all over the world. Good Le Parfait jars can get costly, but some people feel that it is worth the expense, as these jars are known for being extremely reliable and very easy to use. Le Parfait jars really are perfect for a lot of things, thanks to their design. A classic Le Parfait jar has a lid mounted on a wire hinge, with a locking lever to fasten the lid to the top of the jar. A rubber o-ring is inserted into the lid as a gasket, creating an airtight seal inside the jar which will hold until the lever is lifted, breaking the seal. It is also possible to find Le Parfait jars with screw-on caps. For canning, these jars are extremely useful. and because they are clear, it is easy to see the contents of the jar. They can also be used for more general kitchen storage; until cooks are ready to use the contents of the jar, and they can be easily re-sealed. You can also use Le Parfait jars for freezing, although you should be careful to leave a gap at the top of the jar to allow the contents to expand. If the jar lacks sufficient expansion room, it will explode when the contents freeze all the way, since the seal is too strong to allow the jar to simply pop open. Some people also use Le Parfait jars with special gaskets to make fermented foods; in this case, the gasket allows gas to escape from the jar, but not to enter it. The basic design of Le Parfait jars may not be terribly innovative or remarkable, but it has become associated with quality, both because the jars are often of very good quality and because they have become popular with gourmets around the world. Many kitchen supply stores sell Le Parfait jars, and you can also order them from companies which specialize in imported French kitchen supplies.

I have brought different sizes of Fido(10 jars) and Le Parfait(20 jars) Terrine Glass jars from a wholesale seller "wholesaleglassbottles"

Le Parfait jars are thicker and heavier than Fido jars. I'm not sure if thick glass means stronger.

The Le Parfait Terrine Jars latches don't stick out after closing the lid they are flush with the jar.
one advantage of Terrine jar is that it has no "neck & shoulder" so a frozen food will come out like a thanksgiving cranberry jelly.

Update Jan 2015

After using for about two years here are my impressions and dropped my rating to two star.
Usage: I have stored some spices and I open the jar two to three times per week during cooking.

The Jars I have stored spices and open once in a while, the latches are doing good. The ones (half a dozen of them) that I use regularly failed on latches. The latches have a rectangular ring that pulls that lid down has broke on all the six jar. This rectangular ring is flimsy and comes out of attachment because the rectangular ring can't take the forces of closing the lid. I'm guessing their engineers have never tested them. I would not recommend buying them again.

I am using these to store loose teas & herbs. They are exactly what I was looking for, work great, and the price can't be beat. Everything else I've been finding for bulk food storage has been either plastic (which can't be used with tea, it ruins the flavor) or enameled tins that are $80+. I like these so much that after buying four in my initial order, I think I'll buy at least another six (or maybe 10).

Seriously, these are wonderful, tall & narrow so don't take up much space as long as your shelf is tall enough, nice thick glass, amazing value for the price.

Since they are clear glass, I'm storing them in our root cellar since herbs can loose their color & flavor is exposed to light for long periods of time.

And I couldn't find the gaskets in the packing material. Not sure if they were missed in the packing, or if I didn't look hard enough, or what. For anyone else running into this problem, the gasket size is not stated in the product description but I think it will take the 100 mm gasket.

I love these jars. I do have a question, hope someone can help me. The item description states: "Some people also use Le Parfait jars with special gaskets to make fermented foods; in this case, the gasket allows gas to escape from the jar, but not to enter it." Does anyone know where to find those gaskets? I looked on the Le Parfait site, couldn't find them. May have missed them, not sure. I have looked lots of places. Thanks for your help.

great glass jars with airtight seal. we switched from plastic to glass and I did my research on which glass jar. le parfait has the largest mouth/opening and less of a neck (like bormioli), making it easier for scooping with a measuring cup. this 3 liter jar fits almost a whole 5lb bag of flour, a little was left over. the whole bag would easily fit in a larger size, but then it's that much bigger. this is just big enough for me to handle easily. and they look so great in the kitchen - a definite must!

I just added this jar to the two that I already have on my counter (they're over 15 years old now). I use them to store flour and sugar - and they're perfect for that. The jars are both attractive and practical - and definitely keep items free of mealy worms, etc. that can usually work their way into most containers. Attractive, affordable, and long-lasting. Le Parfait jars are perfect additions for your kitchen!

Can't say enough good things about these jars. They are all I have in my home. They keep food super fresh for a long time such as cookies and crackers. I do not use plastic so these are easy to put in the dishwasher and make my cabinets look more appealing than plastic bags and boxes. Will buy more in the future.
