About Paricon
Paricon has had a long and colorful history in the sled-making business, starting in 1861 with the founding of a family business, Paris Manufacturing, in South Paris, Maine, by the great grandfather of current CEO, Hank Morton. From then through today, and into the future, the story unfolds.

It all started, in 1861, when Henry Morton married Lucilla Forbes and the young couple started making sleds in their home. Henry constructed the sleds by hand and his wife decorated them. Their son, Will, an accomplished artist, distinguished himself as a sled painter, specializing in water scenes and scrolls. Hand-decorated sleds today are much sought after by collectors, but the originals were probably meant to ensure that each sled would be a child's prized possession.

During the early 1900s, when each sled was made by hand, the company employed close to 300 workers. It continued in operation as a family business, still employing 200 workers, until the family gave up ownership in 1970s and sold to Gladding Corporation. In 1978, Hank Morton, great-grandson of the founder, headed a group of investors that purchased the company back from Gladding.

Today, Hank and his sons, Ted and Tom, are continuing the family tradition in the sled business with Paricon. The sled line has evolved to include a wide assortment of products for winter use sleds, including steel runner and plastic models at various price points; snowboards; foam sliders; inflatable tubes; wooden toboggans and snow toys. Paricon serves customers throughout the U.S. from its distribution center in South Paris with high-quality products and on-time delivery.

Really loved Amazon here-- the forecast called for a lot of snow. Everybody hit the local stores across several days trying to find sleds for their kids, but I just ordered this pack of three sleds for my three kids and, being an Amazon Prime member, had it overnighted for $4. The sleds showed up on time, and the kids had a blast. My older two used them for three days and gave them the thumbs up. The sleds were fast and very sturdy, standing up to even my 200 pound self sledding with my youngest with no signs of wear or flimsiness.

These sleds are so great! My son was 4 when we got them last Christmas and we could both ride in one just fine. Haven't gone on any super steep hills yet but I imagine they would hold up just fine. He can go on it by himself no problem.

Today I bought 2 of these sleds, 1 each for my 11 and 8 year old kids. We took it to some steep, long hills, packed with a little bit of snow and Wow! I ended up using the Winter Lightning sled while my kids alternated between this and a saucer. It had a nice, fast, smooth ride that took me as far as any of nearly 200 sledders made it to the end of the hill. I'm 5'7", 145 lbs, and the sled was plenty big enough for me. My 8-year old could have also sat in the sled with me.It took me several attempts to get the hang of steering it by shifting my body weight, but that's because I had never gone sledding before. I started out overshifting my weight, and you already know what happened - wipeout. It was so much fun that I can't wait to go sledding again. I think it was moving faster than the majority of sleds and saucers that were being used. It's a great sled at a great price.

I was worried when I bought these sleds that they might suck - the only reason I could think of that they came in a 3 pack was that they must be poorly made, and will break easily... But this is not the case! They seem sturdy, and fit me and my son easily. I am really happy I got them, and I think the value is great. Next year when my son is old enough to sled on his own we will have one for him, one for me, and one for my husband - so now I'm glad I have 3! The only downside to these sleds is they don't come with string pulls, only holes for them. So you will need to add your own string. Not really a big deal.

Last year, my friends (who are all full grown adults) went sledding, and within two hours we broke every sled we had. I bought the Winter Lightning sleds to replace them. This year, I went down the same hill with my 200 lb. husband and his 280 lb. friend, and after 90 minutes, all three of our Winter Lightning sleds remained intact. It's not the biggest of hills, but we all were hitting bumps and getting airtime. If our friend can bounce up in the air and come crashing down and still not break that sled, then I don't know what will.

I guess what you think of these depends on your expectations. Living in Tennessee, I didn't want to spend a lot to get something for my family and these are cheap! However, we just had a full day sledding with them. The kids had a ball and the sleds held up fine, even with two, or even three!, people on them going down a good size hill. Hey, they may break tomorrow, but it isn't like we got them and they all shattered the first day or first use!

I found the previous reviews incomplete and confusing so I decided to write my own. The sleds are 4 feet long and slightly over 2 feet wide. The plastic construction is thick enouph to be a nice durable sled that should last several seasons of normal use. The sled is large enough for 1 normal size adult (if you buy your clothes in the large & tall or womens section maybe not)or a couple of kids should they desire to double-up. The photo shown is not of this sled, nor is the customer photo. The photo with the Amazon page is simular but without the massive overhang on the front. 3 sleds are a great value, everyone wants to ride; no one wants to share!Paricon Winter Lightning Sled (3-Pack)

Unfortunately, these sleds didn't last long for our family. The 1st one broke on day 1, the rest on day 5 or so. They really are thin and weak and perhaps more prone to cracking when the temps are colder. We received EXCELLENT customer service via Amazon to receive a refund. But disappointed that we didn't pay attention to the reviews on these. We have learned our lesson and will buy sleds in person from here on out.
