Superb Chet, June 30, 2007
This review is from: In Paris 1 (Audio CD)
This is one of the truly great jazz albums. It features Dick Twardzik (pno), Jimmy Bond (bass) and Peter Littman (dms)on all but the last 4 tracks. This short lived Baker quartet had performed at several concerts before entering the studios in Paris (October 1955)so they were a well rehearsed and tight group. Of the 9 relevant tunes one was composed by Twardzik but the others by Bob Zieff. Some of these could have become jazz standards but the death of Twardzik shortly after the initial session resulted in Chet only using one tune, "Sad Walk", ever again. The other 4 tunes are OK but, for obvious reasons, somewhat muted. This has always been and remains one of my all time favourite records. In my opinion, it is as good as anything Miles Davis did in the same period

This is a great CD! I am a big fan of Chet Baker's singing, but not as keen on his trumpet playing... this CD is the exception, it is excellent...
