This is an absolute must - the moods, the beats - unrivaled,

If you think Malcolm McLaren is all Sex Pistols and Bow Wow Wow, this is going to really surprise you. This is an experience of atmospheric tracks, different beats of an ethic diversity that takes you unknowingly on a trip around the world in a very comfortable fashion. Listen to Sting's Brand New Day (which he has just released), and you'll see where he got the idea from. This album predates Sting by 5 years and where he uses Indian beats and Sitar, McLaren uses Middle Eastern Soufi beats (on one track) to greater effect. The second disc which is an instrumental mix of the first disc shows where dance music is now heading after it has chewed up and spat out the already regurgitated Latin beat. Quite honestly a seminal album that MUST be in your collection even though I largely hate the more music spoof, commercial rubbish McLaren has produced in his time. Buy it, listen to it and you'll be as surprised as I was. P.S. I don't know Malcolm personally (this ain't propaganda)

Listen in the dark, don't get up until finished.,

This album is a labor of love on many levels; an homage to Miles Davis, a letter to the great beyond for Sid Vicious, and so much more. "Jazz is Paris" is a sublime, dense, gorgeous paean to darkest Paris. Catherine Deneuve, guest on "Paris Paris" simply moves you. There is not one misstep here, and it's perhaps one of the most remarkably evocative recordings I've ever heard. I can't say enough, so just listen for yourself... Pour a black coffee, and spin one million times.

Is there anyone out there that doesn't like this CD?,

I guess not--I'm absolutely in love with it--as I am with the City that this amazing collection of music is named for. Track 13, disc 1 is everything you ever want to experience about Paris without being in the city itself. The instrumental version of this song--track 7, on disc 2 is played over and over and over at my house. If you know what it is to love Paris you'll come to adore this album.I first became aware of MM with Duck Rock but only realized his genius when I saw the video for Madama Butterfly--about a dozen strikingly beautiful women lounging in a sauna while the music plays--absolute, artistic brilliance. i thought it was the best video i'd ever, and have seen. Malcolm has a great eye for what's classy and beautiful, and with this album he proves tht he has the ear for it as well. If it's embarrasing Catherine Deneuve into singing or turning a classic Erik Satie tune into a hot jazzy trumpet number, Malcolm pushes buttons nobody even knew we had. BRAVO!!!
