DipSet is all around the world...,
By Bentley (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Paris to Purple City (Audio CD)
With all the fans the Diplomats have, there are still lots of people who seem to have something against them... mostly "old-school" hip-hop fans it seems. But no matter what, you have to appreciate the scale that they are taking their music to - basically running the mixtape scene right now, releasing their own solo albums, as well as colab CDs... all of which are among the best rap records around. And now expanding to Europe... first (I think) with S.A.S. from London, and now to Paris with about 10 or so of the hottest up and coming French rappers. Not only is this brilliant from a CD sales perspective, but their music is consistently fire, so when they are releasing tons of CDs, it isn't compromising their quality.
Anyways - getting to the point, this CD has a different feel than other Diplomats records, partly because it's all produced by Agallah "The Don Bishop", plus the French influence on it. Even if you haven't liked the Diplomats in the past, I definitely recommend giving this one a chance - really has a great flow and feel to it all thru the album. Also check out the new Juelz Santana CD - "What The Game's Been Missing!"

First of its kind..,
By napalm (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews

First off, this album is great. Some people might not like it because of the fact that half of all the songs are in French. That should not be a downfall. GREAT beats on this album. The lyrics are pretty good too. I assume the French guys are rapping good too.
What really gets the 5 stars from me is the fact that Purple City really did this type of album. I believe it is the first of its kind and they did it well. To have good rap album with two different languages during the whole CD is amazing. All in all, this was a great album. Will stay in my CD collection for quite a while.
