Book Description

May 1998
It has been said that even those who hate shopping love to shop in Paris. Indeed, of all the ways to explore the City of Lights—touring, studying, or meandering through its streets—shopping is by far the most pleasant and civilized way to get to know the city.

The Paris Shopping Companion is the perfect book for the traveler who wants to make the most of what Paris has to offer. While certainly a travel guide, it provides something no other book does: personal guidance from someone who knows how to look at each establishment from a French point of view and who offers practical advice on the best buys at each shop. Containing maps of the major shopping areas, the book is organized to encourage shopping forays neighborhood by neighborhood.

The Paris Shopping Companion describers the merchandise of a wide array of Paris businesses offering unique goods and services, from clothing to linens, jewelry and accessories to books, stationery, food, collectibles, leather goods, kitchen aids, and more. Packed with practical information, it will be useful for anyone who travels to Paris, regardless of one’s budget. TRAVEL ILLUSTRATED; PHOTOGRAPHS, MAPS 6” X 9”, 192 PAGES PAPERBACK

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't just buy it, memorize it!, October 22, 1999

If you are female, this book will determine whether your first trip to Paris is a dream come true, or just 'been there, done that.' I thought I knew Paris pretty well, but this book is full of COOL shopping I had never heard of. Way beyond Frommer and the shops everybody already knows about. Susan Winkler has my vote for shopping Goddess of the millenium!

This was my third trip to Paris, albeit, on a student budget, and this book helped me to find the best bargains and many interesting shops and districts. Organized perfectly for the Paris walker!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book made shopping in Paris a wonderful experience., June 28, 1999

This book was invaluable on a recent five day trip to Paris. It focused my shopping time for me and cut out the waste of looking through many shops for specific items. The map was accurate and the descriptions right on. I planned two shopping days based on the authors recommendations and comments. The only problem I had was running into a shop that was closed, but listed in the book as open. I learned to call ahead to verify the store hours if they were off the beaten path. I highly recommend this book if you're planning on shopping in Paris.
