5.0 out of 5 stars Don't just buy it, memorize it!
If you are female, this book will determine whether your first trip to Paris is a dream come true, or just 'been there, done that.' I thought I knew Paris pretty well, but this book is full of COOL shopping I had never heard of. Way beyond Frommer and the shops everybody already knows about. Susan Winkler has my vote for shopping Goddess of the millenium!

1.0 out of 5 stars A perfect example of why travel guides...
should be updated annually. Several of the shops this book talks about are closed. It isn't a good resource for bargain hunters either. With some changes to the format and annual updates, my opinion might change...but it is very frustrating to be sent on a wild goose chase looking for a shop that no longer exists! Unless they do a 2002 version, don't waste your money.

This was my third trip to Paris, albeit, on a student budget, and this book helped me to find the best bargains and many interesting shops and districts. Organized perfectly for the Paris walker!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book made shopping in Paris a wonderful experience., June 28, 1999

This book was invaluable on a recent five day trip to Paris. It focused my shopping time for me and cut out the waste of looking through many shops for specific items. The map was accurate and the descriptions right on. I planned two shopping days based on the authors recommendations and comments. The only problem I had was running into a shop that was closed, but listed in the book as open. I learned to call ahead to verify the store hours if they were off the beaten path. I highly recommend this book if you're planning on shopping in Paris.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE book to bring to Paris, September 28, 2000

This book was my guide to shopping in and around Paris - I wanted the ultimate shopping experience and Susan's book was the perfect companion. She highlighted many little places even my host (who's lived in France for over 20 years) didn't know about. Other books on the subject don't even compare. Can't wait for the next edition - it will give me a definite excuse to go back!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't have gone without it!, February 22, 2001

This is a MUST book if travelling to Paris. We used it last year on our family trip, and I'm planning to use it again this year. I was hoping there was a more recent edition than '98 since a few of the shops we went to look for were no longer opened. Overall, this book is absolutely the best and you shouldn't go to Paris without it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Every shopper's dream!, April 22, 2002
By A Customer
Whether you've travelled to Paris several times or are going for your first visit, The Paris Shopping Companion is a must. Shopping is a great way to explore the French culture and where better to shop than Paris.

Filled with tips on what to take, where to go, how to calculate costs, and various other subjects, it is a handbook for any type of shopper. In its 3rd edition, The Paris Shopping Companion has been updated to include new stores. It includes bakeries, shoe stores, clothing stores, children's book stores, handbag and luggage stores, perfume and cosmetic stores and just about any other type of store you can think of. The best part is that the guide is equipped with a map, store hours, phone numbers and what type of payments they accept.

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Luxe, Calme, et Volupte...especially Volupte!, May 19, 2002

Like the du Bellay poem, Winkler's book manages to take the chaos of delights to the senses that is Paris and make it intelligible, while preserving the serendipity and spontaneous spirit that characterises the City of Light. The Paris Shopping Companion provides an excellent entree into the city for the novice, and for the seasoned traveler -- or even parisienne -- it is like a generous old friend (one with a much better memory), always ready to offer advice and information. With an engaging style, The Paris Shopping Companion manages to achieve both being excellent bathtime reading and an invaluable reference, whether you are searching for pralines in the 16th or lithographs in the sixth. Of course, Winkler's knowledge of fashion is extensive, and her advice on shopping for clothes is spot-on; her assessments of a boutique's particular style are ringingly accurate. Lastly, Winkler includes interesting bits of information about landmarks, history, and the arts of one of the world's most fascinating cities. This book is more than a shopping guide -- it is truly a superb companion. Je suis accro!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW what a resource!, November 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Paris Shopping Companion: A Personal Guide to Shopping in Paris for Every Pocketbook (Paperback)
Wow...thats all I can say about how helpful this book was on my recent trip to Paris. I'm not one for guide books or anything of the like, but because of a ringing endorsement from a coworker, I bought this book hoping it would be something different from all the rest...Well boy am I glad I did! Not only did Winkler's book act as a roadmap for the paris shopping scene, it was also a pleasure to read. Definitely pick this one up if you are even considering a trip to the hope of the Effiel Tower, you'll be glad you did.

I have traveled to Paris 5x / year for the past 12 years. This is by far the best shopping, really a "what to see and shop for" guide I have ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most interesting, comfortable and easy to use travel book, October 11, 2002
By A Customer
I have enjoyed using this book, and shared it with no fewer then six friends this summer who also traveled to Paris. At a recent book club meeting, we all agreed that Ms Winkler's book provides the most unique and pleasurable guide to walking, or shopping in Paris.

I wish she (Susan Winkler) would right a guide to London!!
