5.0 out of 5 stars Crime of the last century if you don't own this album., June 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Paris (Audio CD)
If you are a fan of the 70's, you need this album. If you don't own any Supertramp, this is the one to get. From the opening harmonica in 'School' to the closing harmonica in 'Crime of The Century', this 16-track set is just mind-blowing. Why? So many textures working magically together to create rich musical patterns. Even if this was a studio album, the production/arrangements would be classed as awesome. Consider that it is live, and that there are only 5 musicians (not 30 as it sometimes sounds), it has got to be just bloody brilliant! "Do yourself a favour!" Close the blinds - dim the lights - sit in your comfy chair - setup your multidisc player for uninterrupted play, and transport yourself to 1980, Paris. Oh, and by the way - standout track is the climactic "Crime of the century". The guitar part is verging out-of-control, and the sax part will rip your heart out!

5.0 out of 5 stars FRENCH ROAST PLEASE, HOLD THE FROTH!, May 3, 2001

This is one of the all-time great concert recordings. It is very easy to lose yourself in your imagination, transporting yourself into attendance on a Paris night that could just as easily have been yesterday as some twenty years ago or so. Listening to this recording gives you the feeling of sitting outside a parisienne sidewalk cafe on a warm night surrounded by friends. The music is tight, as good a any studio production from the band. I have to admit that the sound of the crowd can sometimes get a little annoying, given the perfection of the music, but this minor flaw is easily dismissed. I read where a professional reviewer said this recording was "unnecessary". I strongly disagree. This recording was not only necessary, but well worth the price. Like a cup of fine Parisenne French Roast coffee, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!!, March 31, 2001

This review is from: Paris (Audio CD)
There is no doubt that Supertramp is one of the world's best bands. A month ago I went to a well known music store because I wanted to buy Paris (Live) album on CD, just to find out that the young guys working there did'y even know the band (pathethic). If you are a Supertramp lover this album is the perfect buy and I warranty that you might end up storing it in your fire-resistant box at home, along with your passports and diplomas. For you novice music-lovers grab this album and escape the obnoxious pesudomusic of nowadays. Treat your ears and soul with this masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Supertramp - 'Paris' (A&M) 2-CD, July 5, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Paris (Audio CD)
Hard enough for myself to accept, but I've never even heard this double live CD reissue of Supertramp's memorable November, 1979 concert in Paris before. Most I've ever heard is like two tracks played late nights on an album rock radio station when it first came out. At least as good as their 1976's 'Is Everybody Listening?' {see my review}. Tunes that were truly compelling to hear the live versions of were "Ain't Nobody But Me", "Breakfast In America", "You Started Laughing", "A Soap Opera", "Asylum" and the priceless "Take The Long Way Home". Plus of course, there are the Supertramp staples - like "Bloody Well Right", "Dreamer", "Rudy" and "Crime Of The Century". Sound quality is great. My only regret is I didn't get to catch the band on this particular tour when it came through my town. I did, however catch them six years later on their 'Brother Where You Bound' tour after Roger Hodgson had already exited the band. Guess you REALLY can't have your cake and eat it, too. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Performance, March 11, 2000

The incredible thing about this album is that the songs are better live, than the original studio arrangements on earlier albums. I haven't found any live performance from any other band that I can say was an improvement from their studio work. A truly captivating work!

5.0 out of 5 stars this is the best live-concert album I have ever listened, July 4, 1999

The performance of the band in this monumental concert is extremely good. Although you listen this record in your own home, you can easily feel the mood of both the band and spectators even after 20 years later.

By A Customer
This review is from: Paris (Audio CD)
This is one of the greatest live album I've ever listened. I spent 2 hours searching for this album since I didn't know who the artist is and the only information I knew was it was a live concert in Paris more than 10 years ago...and I wouldn't be hesitated to get of this album for myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Consumate Pop Mastery at Work!, September 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Paris (Audio CD)
This is a compilation of Supertramps finest works. That wouldn't be difficult however as the majority of their albums were gems. Very few dud albums from this band. They combine skilled musicianship with multi-melody line, multi-instrumental orchestral pop. Multi Multi Multi! This band has never been afraid of using a studio for dramatic effect. So this CD is a veritable soundscape of joy for the pop lover. So OK, I admit it, this writer is a long time fan. Crisis What Crisis remains enjoyable after over 20 years, still mooreish in fact... I think I will put it on right now.
