5.0 out of 5 stars New Twist for an Old Enemy, September 6, 2005
This review is from: Paris (Vampire Plagues) (Paperback)
This is book two of the Vampire Plagues Trilogy. It finds three young friends (Ben, Emily, and Jack) and an elderly mentor (Prof. Adensapp) on their way to Paris for a conference on Central American Cultures. All of them except Jack are sure they have defeated the Mayan vampire god, Camototz, in their last encounter [which took place in London in the previous book]. The three saw the vampire god descend into hell, along with his minions, but Jack is sure he heard the monster give a warning that he would return and make them pay. Unfortunately, Jack is right. Their enemy is still alive and waiting for them in Paris. They lose their mentor, pick up a new one, develop a new friendship, and barely escape with their lives, on more than one occasion. The book is well written and fast paced. The kids jump from one heart stopping situation to another. There is just a bit of education about Paris and the Mayan culture, and a few new rules for dealing with vampires [they don't fear crosses, and they still "unlive" after having their heads chopped off], but overall it is a fun read and well worth the time. I think the best part is that, although they do always manage to escape, they don't always win.
Paris ends with a preview of the third book of the Trilogy, Mexico, and I can't wait for it to be released.
