The percussive thrash and mangled vocals of 'Personality Crisis', 'Pills' and 'Vietnamese Baby' show how they were the obvious prototype for the Sex Pistols and a 1000 other punk acts. Sympathy For The Record Industry.

I wasn't expecting much, but this is good stuff. The mix is OK, and David's French is hilarious. Then again the introduction that proclaims Johnny Thunders is "back to zee fifteees" is worth the price of admission. The set is performed with elan, with such tunes as "Puss 'n Boots" and Personality Crisis" and "Stranded in the Jungle" !! belted out in the way we wanted the Dolls doing it on those live CDs we wasted money on. Between lighting cigarettes and moments of, shall we say, light stomachs, the Dolls miss cues and forget where they are and distill rock and roll to its essense, skidding along the edge of diddly/berry, stop to pose, and rock again. A great document.

This CD was originally released as the LP "Red Patent Leather" on Skydog Records.

If you already have that, you don't need this, it's another re-release of that lousy show. The sound quality of this was awful when it was released, I keep hoping that someone will do to this what was done to the Velvet Underground's Live at Max's Kansas City (Dlx) but no luck yet, just another clone of an already released/pirated show. For many years, this was about all of the New York Dolls live show that was available, and it really wasn't representative; Much better live shows of The Dolls/Dollettes (as they were known after Thunders split) exist in fan trading circles.

Four stars for the Dolls expulsion of energy in this recording, minus one star for abysmal bootleg-quality sound.

Raw, energetic, crazy, sloppy, irreverent, everything you expect the dolls to be.

This is a great dolls album. The sound quality is excellent, and the dolls flat out rock the house.

The only problem is that we need more dolls concerts of this quality, where are they?
