5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Value
Dr. Fischer's approach to weight loss is replete with common sense, practical advice, humor, and tantalizing recipes. I especially liked the psychological contributions of Dr. Stanley Krippner on how to develop self-confidence and replace negative beliefs about one's eating habits with positive, constructive beliefs. Additional contributions by specialist in exercise,...

I tried this diet for approximately one month and felt like I was starving. Don't get me wrong, I definitely saw results but the Park Avenue diet, but this eating lifestyle isn't realistic. Although I'm nowhere near overweight I was looking for advice on losing a few extra pounds and adopting a healthier lifestyle. Realistically this is not a diet that the average...

I especially liked the psychological contributions of Dr. Stanley Krippner on how to develop self-confidence and replace negative beliefs about one's eating habits with positive, constructive beliefs. 5.0 out of 5 stars Revolutionary New Diet Book, June 28, 2008
This review is from: The Park Avenue Diet: The Complete 7 - Point Plan for a Lifetime of Beauty and Health (Hardcover)
This book offers a powerful, rational approach to dieting without the hype. It provides the reader cogent, practical, psychologically-sound suggestions to better eating habits. For example, Dr. Stanley Krippner's chapter about the role of self-confidence in healthy weight maintenance illuminates a key concept often missing from other dietary approaches. A must read for any health care professional and person wanting to maximize their health.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much more than a diet, July 1, 2008

PARK AVENUE DIET is much more than a diet. It's a way of life, complete with advice on eating, fitness, personal growth, how you look, how you relate to others, and more. I bought this book and went out and got my hair cut! Just the right thing. Sensible advice, from a panel of experts it would be hard to assemble, never mind hear all at once, offering this valuable plan. Here is a CREATIVE as well a holistic, approach to self-improvement. I say this as editor of EVERYDAY CREATIVITY AND NEW VIEWS OF HUMAN NATURE (2007), to which one of this book's illustrious authors contributed! That's what sent me this way. And how glad I am.

Realistically this is not a diet that the average working class American can maintain if you are on a budget. Money wasn't an issue for me but the diet options were very restrictive in my opinion. This is a diet for someone who is highly disciplined eats like a bird, and has a lot of disposable income to eat the food selections recommended in the book. I'm learning that having a balanced diet, working out, and staying away from processed foods is the best way to lose and maintain a healthy weight. You don't need any fads or gimmicks to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

5.0 out of 5 stars It really is more than a diet, September 30, 2008
This review is from: The Park Avenue Diet: The Complete 7 - Point Plan for a Lifetime of Beauty and Health (Hardcover)
I've never been a fan of diet plans. Honestly, when it comes to losing weight I think that proper eating and exercise are highly underrated. But The Park Avenue Diet actually approaches your life in a holistic and practical way that even I could relate to.
No glamorous promises, no impossible goals. Park Avenue delivers a diet plan that is truly original in a way that sets it aside from every other "diet". You just won't find the same approach elsewhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Information Source, September 29, 2008
This review is from: The Park Avenue Diet: The Complete 7 - Point Plan for a Lifetime of Beauty and Health (Hardcover)
I enjoyed reading this book. Got some excellent recipes and good self confidence advice. Regarding the fitness/exercise tips, it is best suited for someone just starting to exercise (still helpful though). Wardrobe advice was basic but also helpful. Overall I would recommend this book to a family member or friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea, Well Done, June 30, 2008
This review is from: The Park Avenue Diet: The Complete 7 - Point Plan for a Lifetime of Beauty and Health (Hardcover)
Wouldn't you love to be rich enough to be able to consult not just one specialist to help you with health/weight/image/confidence issues, but a whole team? This is the idea underlying this book. Fischer brought together a handful of specialists few of us could afford to hire ourselves to give their insights on the multi-faceted reality of bringing discipline to our mind/body relationship. As a psychologist, I'm most familiar with Stanley Krippner's stellar reputation, but each member of the team Fischer assembled is a luminary in his/her field. If you're looking for something beyond just another diet book, this comprehensive approach could be what you have in mind.

The advice in this book is no secret and provides a lot of common sense. Because the ideas are valid, but nothing new nor mind blowing, I gave it three stars. Exercise, eat right, believe in yourself and don't leave your house looking sloppy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just another diet book, April 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Park Avenue Diet: The Complete 7 - Point Plan for a Lifetime of Beauty and Health (Hardcover)
This book is an easy read. It's nice that it's set up with several experts taking turns on giving information and taking the reader through positive steps toward weight loss and improving several areas in life. However, it is another one of those diet books that if you like following the menus supplied, you have to hunt for the ingredients. Some of the ingredients are expensive making it more challenging for the person who has to stick to a budget. All in all, the book is ok.

3.0 out of 5 stars Its a good read, December 29, 2009
This review is from: The Park Avenue Diet: The Complete 7 - Point Plan for a Lifetime of Beauty and Health (Hardcover)
I liked this book however I found that most of the book is common sense and actual portion about eating correctly requires a lot of time to plan in my opinion. I know other people who loved the book. Tinsley Mortimer's section was probably the best advise. This is more of a self help book than a diet book but it is worth the read.
