Quite a while ago, I watched the episode "Nightmare in Nashville" (NIN). So currently, I am reading the book "When Nashville Bled: The untold stories of serial killer Paul Dennis Reid" (WNB), which is a pretty decent read, minus some perhaps slightly lazy editing and slightly more lazy grammar. Even still, I had to buy NIN, as a refresher on this story while reading.

The story is obviously amazing, more so of course for viewers than the families of the victims. There was absolutely no reason for Paul Reid to kill any of these people, and of course there was no reason that he had to rob them either. But in the last year or so, he finally got his just desserts; I guess that he died while in a hospital prison. I doubt there were many mourners at his wake, as in life, he only left chaos in his own pointless wake.

Overall, this show is pretty good, as I like the combination of narration and storytelling. And the interviews with the detectives, at least with the NIN episode, are very good as well. You can tell that those detectives still feel pain over the senseless killing that Mr. Reid committed. A while back, I watched a true-crime show that discussed the Polly Klaas kidnapping and murder, and the detective's pain here seems to be as real as the detective who was in charge of solving her murder.

While I admit that I am a true-crime "fan" -- fan of the shows, and not of the crimes, of course -- sometimes I wonder if the proliferation of these shows actually creates more criminals? After all, Mr. Reid wanted to be a country music star, and that failed miserably, so perhaps he took on the only thing he was good at that could make him famous: killing people. Just a thought.
