5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for the right price!
I am a bike novice, but still want to keep my bike clean. Even using "dry" lube, the chain still accumulates dirt and gunk. Although your chain will only be 90% clean, this scrubber will keep your hands clean. Because it gets so much gunk off your chain, you will need to change the fluid 1-2 times before the chain looks clean. The unit also disassembles well for...

1.0 out of 5 stars Park Tool Failure, September 14, 2008

I've owned three of these cleaners. They do a real nice job of cleaning the chain. The biggest problem I had with all three of the units is that they start to fall apart after only a few uses. Two of the units either the hinge point or latch point or both for the two metal clips break away leaving you unable to lock the top to the body. I only use the Park brand of chain cleaner. The third cleaner the actual cleaning brushes fell apart.

I've ordered the Finish Line chain cleaner. I'll post a review of that product after I have used it for a period of time.

Although your chain will only be 90% clean, this scrubber will keep your hands clean. Because it gets so much gunk off your chain, you will need to change the fluid 1-2 times before the chain looks clean. The unit also disassembles well for cleaning (every part can come apart so keep track). Bottom line: it works quickly and cleanly and it's inexpensive!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, March 11, 2008
This review is from: Park Tool CM-5 Cyclone Chain Cleaner (Sports)
Very effective chain cleaner. Probably not as good as taking your chain off but it does a hell of a job while keeping your chain on the bike. The biggest problem I had was trying to balance my bike while I used the chain cleaner. If you have someone hold the bike you can clean your chain in a flash. A little messy but what do you expect. I've seen some people complain about it being easy to break but it seems pretty sturdy to me. All in all great product and great price.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's okay, February 10, 2011

Like others said, this product works well but it is just a pain to use. I've used it about three times now and it's still holding up well. I have been very careful because it seems like it's very easy to break.

Use: 3 stars. It's not easy to pour the cleaning solution, place the chain in the proper positions, clamp the case shut, and then roll chain. It almost seem like you need a third hand to do things. The chain sometimes snags, then the whole case gets pulled one direction or another, then you may need to set up again. It would be cool if they can design the cleaner to be attached to the bike, so then you wouldn't have to hold it.

I think the main question is whether this tool *really* clean the chains... my verdict is no. Yes, I do see little dirt and bits at the bottom of the cleaner when I've run the chains through many many times. But, when I look at the chain itself, it's still not so clean that I'm happy with. After using this tool, I still need to wipe and brush the chain until it's spotless.

Overall, I think it's an okay tool to use. But since it really doesn't do what it's suppose to, I don't recommend it to anyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Broke on first use..., April 24, 2010

I've used chain cleaners before, so I was very disappointed when it broke during its first use. It does thoroughly clean the chain, but the clips that hold the lid in place are 'WAY too tight. If you buy one, you may want to relax the wire clips before use. I will replace it with Nashbar's chain cleaner.[...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Here is Alternative Liquid You Can Use, August 10, 2009

This chain cleaner is great. Seems very strudy as there is nothing loose moving around insdie that would indicate shoddy design or manufacture. All brushes roate smoothly. I am using Simple Green bio cleaner in this unit as it is half the price at least of the park chain cleaner and it works great. I just cleaned my wifes mountain bike (8 yrs old) never had the chain cleaned and it was gross. Took two cleanings but it is all clean now. My year old trek hybrid was no challenge at all for the Cyclone. I can also see where there would be no problem using another cleaner like 409 as well. Anything that will cut grease and doesnt eat plastic like a pertoleum solvent will be fine. Be sure and clean the Cclone after each use and it should last a long time. Great time saver and I hope this review helps.

This does a good job cleaning your chain for the most part. If you use the brushes along with this you can do a good job. This is the second one that I have owned and my only complaint is that is does not hold up to normal wear and tear. My first one the plastic cracked after only a few uses so it wouldn't hold the cleaner. I am trying to be more cautious with this second one.

As usual, this Park product has delivered. The Cyclone is well built and has stood up to many chain cleanings. This is my second one but I pretty much abused the first one as much as someone could and it took it well. It's very solid, it does a good job of cleaning and it's easy to get replacement parts for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Did a great job with Rubbing (Isopropyl) Alcohol" as cleaning fluid, April 22, 2011
This review is from: Park Tool CM-5 Cyclone Chain Cleaner (Sports)
I didn't like the idea of using water to "rinse" my chain after using the supplied cleaner so I elected to use "Rubbing Alcohol" (Isopropyl) instead of the supplied cleaner. I couldn't be more pleased with the reults. The chain is clean, the brushes and sponge in the Scrubber cleaned up easily with soapy water. I use "White Lightning" chain lubricant now, but graphite in the past so the chain was black and waxy before cleaning. Now is is "White Glove" clean. The tool itself is very satifactory, I haven't dropped it and am careful to open the clips gently so I am pleased with it. I also removed the cassette and cleaned it using 15" craft stems (long fat pipe cleaners) that fit between the cogs perfectly to get all the dirt out. I wiped the chain wheels off also so everything is clean.
