5.0 out of 5 stars Parkzone F4U Corsair RTF Kit, May 4, 2009

This plane is a lot of fun. However, if you are new to the hobby of RC aircraft, I do not recommend this product; check out the J3 Supercub also by Parkzone instead. It is an excellent trainer. Otherwise, read on.

This is my first electric low-wing airplane. Flying electric is a lot less of a hassle than glow engines because you don't have to constantly buy expensive fuel and no one bothers you about the noise (this thing is pretty quiet). The only rub is waiting for the batteries to charge. Trust me, once you have this bird up once, the wait for a fresh battery will drive you nuts.

This kit comes with everything you need to get started. The plane has all of the electronics (motor, servos and receiver) pre-installed and comes with a Spektrum 2.4 GHz DX5 transmitter. I like the 2.4 GHz radio systems because you don't have to worry about what channel anyone else is using like you did in the 72 MHz days. Once you switch the radio system on, it scans the spectrum for two unused channels and assigns them. Barring the freak interferences that occur no matter what brand or spectrum you use, you'll have a safe and stable flight.

To get her in the air, the only thing you need to do is attach the wing and charge the included battery. Also included in the kit is a three blade prop that is seen in the image. A two blade prop is installed on the aircraft out of the box. The two blade offers more thrust and the three blade offers a more realistic scale performance. I prefer the three blade just because it looks cool.

The Corsair flys beautifuly in winds up to 10 MPH. The powerful 480 kV brushless motor that comes with the kit lets you take to the skies VERTICALLY. I found this plane to be very fast and highly responsive in the air, which lets you perform just about any aerobatic maneuver you can think up. Bringing her down is nice, too, as it has a very stable glide that, in low wind scenarios, will let you land with no power.

Crashing isn't much of an issue with this plane, either. The entire body is made of Parkzone's Z-foam, which is just styrofoam. Sounds cheap, I know, because I was skeptical of "foamies" at first, too. However, any body damage done can be fixed easily out in the field with some 5 minute epoxy or CA glue. Crashes still have the potential of breaking your plastic prop or damaging your servos, so be careful. I have brought mine down pretty rough a couple of times and knicked the wings, but a little glue and some patience and no one could ever tell. Try that with a balsa wood kit!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a thrill, September 9, 2010

WARNING: THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER PLANE BY NO STRETCH OF IMAGINATION.
The plane is aggressive. This is my 6th plane. If you are a beginner, first start with a flight simulator. Spend a month on a flight simulator. Crash 1,000 there, then get your first plane, which should be something slow, fun and forgiving: [...]

I bought my ParkZone Corsair RTF recently. Setting it up was very quick; however, I accidentally swapped my front wheels when I snapped them in. They are not marked. If you swap them, the plain will nose down every time you land it. When you install them correctly (left in the left, right in the right;), they will point forward.

It's a great plane, and the most fun plane I've owned so far.

It's truly RTF, and the servos come pre-installed for you. Recently I purchased a cheaper Corsair from Guanli, and the plane was terrible and the wing servos were not pre-installed. You will not regret ParkZone's Corsair though. The plane is balanced right out of the box.

Important hints:
1) Even though the plane was balanced right out of the box, the elevator was slightly off (down). I couldn't really tell, but it was low enough to cause problems. So, when I flew it for the first time, it felt like the plane was nose heavy. I ended up crash-landing it because it kept rolling down too much for me to even land it. I had the trim set all the way up, it wasn't enough. I had to screw in the elevator rod about 10 turns. Then, once in the air, I was able to trim it correctly.
2) The plane comes with the servos attached at the top hole in the control horns. You can change them to the second hole after a few flights.
3) It is easy to swap the front wheels when you install them. Watch out! If you do that, your plane will keep nosing down when you tax AND when you land.
