Second I looked at materials (heavy brass with nickel chrome), great weight.

Further experimentation can be used once proper technique and feel is obtained...get a good feel for the razor first though.

I would recommend this product for anyone who is a little bit advanced with Double Edge Safety Razors.

I've been using the Parker 91R now for a couple of months and have fallen in love with it. I stopped using Mach3 and other disposables completely and am currently using Derby Extra blades in the razor. The Parker and Derby combination cuts warm hairs like butter.

The razor is very capable of shaving exceptionally close to the skin. Up until shaving with the Parker 91R, I had never experienced such a close shave. My cheeks were so smooth my skin felt somewhat fake with lotion on it. Gave me a "what the?!?!" reaction the first time. Was accustomed to encountering stubble when using the Mach3 and other disposables. The closely shaven parts were extremely smooth.

The 7AM blades are good to go with at first since they are not quite as sharp as Derby Extras. The 7AM blades are therefore more forgiving when learning how to obtain the proper shaving angle and pressure. I recommend buying a quality badger hair brush and using shaving soap cakes for a really good shave. Following the shave up with some Hempz(tm) lotion leaves skin super soft and smooth. Hempz(tm) doesn't leave a greasy feeling like petroleum-laden lotions.

Some tips for the Parker 91R are...
(1) Use proper pressure. The less pressure against your face, the better. Do not press down like with Mach3 razors -- with a safety razor, you are trying to glide over the skin and cut the hairs, not the skin. Mach3 razors let people get away with bad shaving techniques at the expense of stubbly, non-close shaves.
(2) Use proper angle. The safest and easiest way to learn the proper angle is to start with the smooth, polished top portion of the head touching your skin. The handle will be sticking away from your face at a 90 degree angle -- straight away from your skin surface.

I've got sensitive skin and a tough thick beard. Two days without a shave and I start looking like a member of the Taliban. I went through the whole family of Gillette products. From the trac II through the atra onto the mach 3 and lastly the fusion. The fusion is probably best in the cartridge class, but even with the best in class, razor rash rode shotgun on many morning commutes. To add insult to injury, 5 o'clock shadow would come in around 2 pm. So some days I would have to shave again at lunch to look neat and trim for an afternoon client meeting. This was a real pain with no end in site. I started doing a bit of research and I found that my problem was caused by the shaving cream and razor.

Step One:
Ditch the canned shaving gels and creams. They are not worth the money. Go with a good quality shaving soap or fine shaving cream in a tub or jar, with a good badger hair brush. I personally use a Vulfix super badge hair brush with Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving cream and it's fantastic.

Step Two:
Buy a good DE razor and blades. I started with a Merkur adjustable and it was OK but not great. I then tried a Parker 22r next. OK as well, but the shaving profile is a bit aggressive and I find the handle a bit slippery when shaving in the shower. I picked up the 91R after reading the reviews and I have to say it's a great razor and I'm not going to switch.

It's heavy so there is no need to push down when shaving! The long handle with checking make it very easy to hold and guide while shaving in the shower. The shaving profile gives a really close shave but no razor rash or nicks.

Blades:
I like Sharp and Feather.

(Check my photos of this razor)

***Edit. After about a month with my Parker I purchased a Merkur 38c thru Amazon. Not because the Parker gave bad shaves, but I wanted to try out the 38c based on the amount of good reviews I read on sites such as the "Badger and Blade" forums. I was hesitant, because really how much could difference a razor make? Well it's a very significant difference. I would rate the Parker a 3 star after trying out the Merkur.

The build quality on the Merkur is much better. One thing I noticed on the Parker was that 1 out of 5 times I loaded it with a razor the alignment was off on the blade. If you look at it from top down you can see one side was way more exposed than the other. You can get it to fit right but just left me with an uneasy feeling. I will keep the parker as a backup but I think I found my razor with the Merkur. (using the red pack personnas as my razors, ditch the 7am blades.) For a good shave cream look for Proraso. (or the CO Bigelow shave cream from Bath and Body)

The parker is a decent shaver but for a little bit more money you can get an excellent razor that will last years. Cheers.

This may be a fine razor for experienced wetshavers. However, first timers will be well advised to stay away. This can be an aggressive razor due to the wide gap. Also, I consider myself to have sensitive skin so I must have far more sensitive skin than these five-star reviewers.

I don't know how many stars to give this razor. It must be a fine razor for experienced shavers so I will avoid giving a rating. (Turns out that Amazon demands a rating. I will give it a middle of the road rating at three stars.)

I will quote a YouTube review that I just wrote:

"I just now used a vintage Gillette razor over the Parker 91R. Wow! The difference is like night and day. The Parker feels like I am shaving with a set of alligator teeth! I eventually have to put the razor down and step back from it like a dangerous weapon. New wetshavers: if you have not yet purchased a razor, please do yourself a solid and steer clear from that Parker 91R."
