Although I'm not a fan of social games, this one encourages players to creatively communicate. The basics is this: You have a word you need to get someone else to say, but you cannot use the 5 words underneath it to describe it. Because everyone thinks of things differently, it's one that you can play over and over again. Caution though, couples who have been married a long time will have an advantage, so don't let 'em be on the same team :-D.

This is a great 4-person game, in which one person is giving clues, another from the opposite team is watching over his or her shoulder to ensure the clue-giver is not using any of the "taboo" words, his or her partner is guessing, and the other opponent is the time-keeper.More than four people play in teams, and it's fun to both guess and provide clues, and challenging enough to keep you on your toes and laughing. My advice for having the most fun and gaining the competitive edge is to personalize your clues. If you use a taboo word and get "buzzed," it's distracting, so it's better to just scan them quickly, so you know what they are, and then use shared experiences and/or preferences. For "spaghetti," when you can't say Italian, pasta, sauce, noodle, meatballs, etc. you mention what your partner had for lunch at Olive Garden, or if you've ever gone to a Revolve Tour or read Chad Eastham: what girls are, if guys are waffles Guys Are Waffles, Girls Are Spaghetti.

I purchased the game for Christmas. We took it to our skiing trip & played it with a group of 12 people. Everyone had a lot of fun even the kids like it and played the game throughout the whole trip. I would highly recommend this game to everyone!

My husband and I were looking for a game to play that would be fun. Some friends of our introduced us to this one and we have been begging everyone to play it with us since. You do not need a lot of people to play, it is fun with just 4. It is a harder game for small children but teens may be able to play fairly well. Playing couples sometimes seems a little unfair. With my husband, he knows how I think so he knows how to describe things to me. If you do decide to switch partners, its gets more challenging. I must admit, this game is not for everyone. You have to know a lot of words and their meaning. However, if you are good at deductive reasoning, you would be good at this game because there are 5 words you can't say that are related to the word. You can play it sober or as a drinking game and its always fun. My husband is better at it buzzed but he still likes to play any old time.

I originally discovered this game earlier last year when my friend brought it out for all of us to play. At that time it was two groups of friends being introduced to each other so not all of us were familiar. The game really helped us get out of being shy and before we knew it, we were cracking up on the floor. On a more educational note, I think it provides a great challenge of trying to pull out the right words to describe what was on the card. A lot of us had difficulties at some time, especially the men.

This updated version of Taboo has updated, current words not yet in the lexicon upon the first release of Taboo years ago. Still the same old game and still a lot of fun.

My friends and I play this all the time so we've gone through all the cards several times but we starting making up rules of our own to make it fun again. It's a great game that never gets old.

This game is the best! It really makes you think fast. I've been wanting to buy it forever and I'm glad I did. You end up learning new things about the people you're playing with and the things people say when they are under pressure are hilarious!

This game is fantastic. The point is to get your team to guess a word or phrase using other words or descriptions besides the ones on the card. For example "tongue" was once described by my friend as "face-hole tentacle" This leads to a great deal of hilarity, and can be both a family game or a drinking game with equal dexterity - great for learning to think about things in new ways. Really, REALLY fun for groups of six or more! |
