5.0 out of 5 stars Loads of fun
I was unsure what to expect from this toy, but we played it last evening with our seven and nine year olds, and everyone had a blast.

The succint version is the penguin flips spins 360 and flips out cards (thus it's best to play on the ground). A moderator reads something you should find in a card. As an example, "Something yummy". The first player to find...

This toy is not hard to use, and it is entertaining to watch. But it is also not all that fun to use, and the six times or so we've played it, everyone gets bored after about 20 minutes. We found that we needed to have one person just to play the role of the "moderator" -- the person who watches for when the light changes, calls out the new category, and verifies whether player choices match the category being played. Trying to meet these functions while being a player just didn't work. Definitely need to play in a larger surface area, probably on a soft surface such as carpeted floor or bed since cards will go flying off a table and scatter across a hard-surface floor. So, not a bad toy, but purchase it on sale. You'll have a good time for $12 but feel ripped off if bought at premium price near $30.00

The succint version is the penguin flips spins 360 and flips out cards (thus it's best to play on the ground). A moderator reads something you should find in a card. As an example, "Something yummy". The first player to find something (an apple as an example) and yell "Pictureka!" keeps the card. Whoever has the most cards at the end of the game is the winner. That sounds simple enough, but it is very fast-paced, and my kids (who have a plethora of games) had a blast playing it (as did Mom and Dad).

Buy Pictureka for your six year old and you will get:

disembodied bloody hand
skulls
disembodied bloody arm
bloody eyeball popping out of a man's eye socket
two steaming piles of poop
a zombie with a bloody bone stump where his foot should be
disembodied bony, bloody hand
multiple references to alcohol
a man with a chainsaw for an arm
a guy with the top of his skull removed, his bloody brain
sticking out and spewing blood and matter
a man carrying a bloody brain
a man carrying a bloody eyeball

and MORE!!

Family game night last night started out fun with this game. The idea of it is fantastic and game play is fun. Then, a few of these disturbing images started popping up. My eight year old was crying and was disturbed. Then, I looked through the cards and found these images. I cannot believe they advertise this as a family game for ages six and up. Perhaps your six year olds play Grand Theft Auto or watch violent cartoons. If so, then you feel free to buy this game. However, if you like your children to not see rated R elements in a cartoon picture - then stay away from this game!

4.0 out of 5 stars Kids love it. Sort of boring for adults, July 21, 2010

Kids love this game. I agree with the other customer comment that a "moderator" is needed to watch for the changing light and to hear the penguin cry out over the kids yelling "Pictureka". That's a good role for an adult, who would otherwise get bored or frustrated trying to be quicker than the kids in identifying cards or noticing that the penguin's light changed three seconds ago. To the parents who find the pictures "disturbing", I think they've forgotten that when you're a kid, you like gross stuff. Roald Dahl understood that. The pictures are cartoon-ish, so it's funny gore.

Was son was very happy to receive this for Christmas and we have all had fun playing it. We try to have "game night" at least once a week, and this game has been added into our rotation of games. Very fun for the whole family.

The game is pretty fun and amazing. What's new in this game mode, compared to the standard Pictureka, is the adrenaline factor. The penguin will spin around throwing cards away and you'll have to catch them before they fall from the table and, then, you'll have to find various kind of objects on the cards as fast as possible, before the penguin changes its mind and asks you for a different mission.
So, the game is funny but it's a mess when you try and play it for the first time. There's no way to bring order in a group of friends trying to catch the cards they have seen at the same time: one will try and scream "pictureka!" the moment he sees a card matching the mission. But another player will do the same thing too and there's no GameMaster, so it's difficult to understand who came first, who will try and win the mission... it's a mess, but I'm sure you'll be able to put some order in the game your own way and, after all, the mess is part of the fun ;)
So the game is really another thing compared to the standard pictureka, it's not worst or better, just different and that's good. My only concern is about the electronic penguin: will it last or will it break soon? In any case that won't be a very huge deal: you can always trow the cards around yourself ;)
Have fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars kids really enjoy it, December 12, 2010

We just got this game last night. I thought the game was a little boring and lacking a clear outline of play HOWEVER all four of my kids had a lot of fun with all the craziness. Even my little ones (3 and 4) who didn't really know how to play were having a good time looking for dog bones and bird feathers etc. It has been brought up in other reviews some of the pictures are pretty gross, which is true. There are lots of comic style pictures, one my 4 year daughter held up and shouted to her brother "Ewwwwww... look a brain!!!" and then giggled for 10 minutes at her joke. Some kids are pretty tender and if you have a kid that sees a cartoon drawing of something yucky and can't handle it then really pass on this one. It's not for dramatic and sensitive kids/families. My kids think everything is funny and try to find humor and light where they can. We're a military family and so they grow up a little faster:) We don't let them watch violent or mature content cartoons or let them watch movies rated anything other than g or pg but cartoon pictures of bones and brains doesn't ruffle my feathers.

This is a fun game, especially if you are a penguin lover. I think it would be more fun with more people, we played with 3 people and the cards did go flying across the table, which in itself was amusing. It was fast passed & fun, but it's not a game I wanted to sit and play for a really long time. I think if a lot of people played it may be more fun. Over all it was fun, and I am glad I bought it.

This game is fun the first time or two you play, but got old very fast. You cannot play on a table, the penguin flings the cards pretty far and most of them fly off the table. It is similar to the old fashioned memory game, with a little added challenge, but if I had to do over, I would not purchase again.

FUN game!!! We have spent hours playing this game and it's new every time! From my 4-year old to Gramma, everyone loves it. Fast-paced, quick to play, everything stores neatly inside the iceberg, penguin is cute, interesting things on the cards..... only thing that would maybe make it better would be more "command cards" of things to look for, but it really does have plenty! FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
