4.0 out of 5 stars Brings back memories.
This is not a reproduction of the original Game of Life from 1960. It reminds me of the 1977/1978 version I played as a kid. Still a great game, and I love making off side bets. Enjoy.

I found this game at Target and I thought it was such a great idea so I bought it. When I got it home, I tried to put it all together, come to find out the pieces were to big for the board or didnt fit right. The board wouldnt close all the way when you put in the wheel so we had to play with a big split in the board. The cars holes were too small and wouldnt hold the people so they kept falling out every time you would move the piece. The pieces are cheaply made, not like the orginal game.

I think the set is awesome but I would only buy the ones that you dont have to put together

I've never played LIFE before and I got the vintage edition because I had bought the SORRY vintage edition earlier and had thoroughly enjoyed it. But the pieces don't fit and the spinner is ridiculously hard to work one reason being it doesn't fit on the board, making it uneven. And the little people in the cars fall out easily as well. Like I said, I've never played this game before, so I have never owned another board to compare this to. However, considering a lot of people have had the same problem, I don't think I'm too far off base.

Like one of the other reviewers, I saw this at Target, and since I remembered playing as a kid, I wanted to share that fun with my 9 & 10 year old who have never played. I remember whiling away the hours with my sibs playing this game and it was loads of fun, especially when we would make up our own rules for playing the market! But the way this so called vintage game is constructed, it's an insult to its predecessor. First of all, the pieces aren't formed correctly so they don't all fit properly. Then, when I tried snap in the number wheel, (just like the other reviewer), there was a big gap in the board. I love this game so much, that I was willing to overlook that until I was spinning the number wheel and trying to "loosen" it up, the clicker (?) came right off! (I'm talking about the pointy piece of plastic makes contact with the number wheel every time it goes around.) That was the last straw. I'm taking it back and I'm getting a good old fashioned one. BTW, it looks like you would have to construct and consequently de-construct the whole game every time in order to get it back into it's original box. Well, based on the way they built this thing, it's apparent they're not expecting you to play it alot, anyway. Vintage-Shmintage.

I bought the vintage edition to relive the fun I had playing this growing up. However, the game play is different, the construction is cheap (the people will not stay in the cars, the mountain passes don't fit on the board well, the spin wheel works poorly), and amazingly, the directions don't even explain how to use the stock certificates, fire insurance, and life insurance. Only auto insurance is explained. How can something be made so poorly when there is a perfectly good example made by the same company about 30 years ago? Were the plans for the original lost?

I purchased this vintage wood book edition of LIFE for my husband who has been collecting wood board games. He especially wanted this vintage edition because of the original rules of the game. If you're old enough to remember, the original rules has a different 'value' for boy children than girl children. The new rules of the game are more politically correct. Regardless, it was the perfect holiday present for my husband to complete his collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the real game, October 11, 2010

I bought the vintage version of Life at target, I loved this game as a kid and figured it was worth it. However, the game has completely different rules. You no longer have job, salary and house cards which was half the fun! You no longer get life cards but some weird other thing if you land on pay day and there is nothing like travel Europe get a life card. Stocks are no longer spin a number. There is now a "revenge" card - not the best idea for kids. Also, you can't retire to the countryside, you either are a millionaire or bankrupt! When you get married or have kids the others must pay you as gifts, because clearly gifts are mandatory in life. The new rules are ridiculous and insulting to the original game, not to mention the pieces are cheaper than ever (ie the people don't fit in the car, the pieces don't fit on the board and the spinner gets stuck). Don't waste your money, get the real Life.

As a child of the 80's I remember the game of life with the career, salary & house cards. I was very disappointed to find that this version did not include those features. The board and pieces are cheaply made and do not fit well together. Even thought the box is pretty I would recommend going with normal box if you grew up with the same version of this game as I did.

I love all the games from the vintage edition. I'm so sick of the old boxes in my closets - I wanted the games in my bookshelf where I could keep them neat and in plain sight for people to see. I like board games and these are perfect for me and my family.
