2.0 out of 5 stars A Tepid Mystery From a Suspense Master, July 5, 2011

This review is from: Parlour Games (Hardcover)
This mystery / suspense novel from author Robert Marasco (writer of the great haunted house novel Burnt Offerings and the Tony nominated play Child's Play) offers a few surprises, but is mostly forgettable. Long out of print now, I found a copy at the library after reading his other two works. While I can't say enough good things about the wonderfully creepy Burt Offerings, this book is more of a slow burn that never really heats up. A female ad exec gets involved with a toy manufacturing CEO who may or may not have killed his past girlfriend. Throw in an overprotective sister who will do anything to keep the girl away from the brother, and the dead girl's disturbed mother, who swears the guy did it, and you've got a complex mystery that offers a few twists, but, honestly, I saw the ending coming from the beginning. I think I would have liked it more if it had been shorter. But for mystery fans, it might be worth picking up. It's only a penny from the Amazon marketplace.
