This charger will fry the snot out of anything (including you). Just be sure to install at least 3 ground rods.

My last Parmak unit lasted for over a decade - it finally gave up the ghost. I expect the same from this one. The digital reading of the chock strength is fantastic! Much easier than reading the old one's dial. I put mine is a cheap plastic storage bin to keep the rain off - yes, it is outside but protected from the rain. I just poked a hole in the storage bin to put the cord through. Once properly grounded (more is better in this case) it jumped to life and is keeping my horses (including the filly that checks the fence daily!) in their 5 acre pasture. Very pleased with the unit and I like the fact I can change the fuses once they go bad (I learned a long time ago to keep fuses on hand). It also says it has a lightning protector built in - well worth the money. The horses had been ignoring the solar powered unit I was using until this one arrived but are now back to respecting the fence.

We have several of these. We have goats, cows, pigs, chickens and more. We use double line electric fence as well as electric net fence for rotational grazing and containment. These work great. Just wish they would make them in a weather proof enclosure.

This fence charger is top quality. It does a good job in keeping the cows in. I like the fact that it has a display that is easy to read and tells you when it is grounded out.

I bought the SE5 and loved it for 1 month! Then it started going from 13.5 to below 4 then back up. On and On until it zeroed out and stayed there after a few days of sporatic perfomance. I took it back to Murdochs (feed store) where it was easily replaced. The new one worked fine for 1 week then has started shooting up and down the scale. I have three ground rods ( 6 feet deep) spaced as instructed. It is indoors. Plenty of current. I am only running about 1/4 mile of 14 gauge fence wire. If it was from a wire shorting out, it should be showing low output immediately not just after a period of time. Very disappointed! I spoke with Randy at Parmak and he said it sounded internal but was at a loss as to why. The instruction manual clearly states that all problems are most likely due to the purchaser making mistakes. I've had lesser priced units work excellent for years all installed with only 1 ground rod and not reading the instructions! This one I paid $150 for, installed as per instructions and am not impressed.

I had a SE4 that worked fine for two years. It went up and I needed a replacement immediately. I ordered the SE5 while getting the SE4 repaired. The SE5 trips the GFI protected circuit within 6 hours of plugging it in.
When I spoke with Parmak, they state - the instructions warn against using on a GFI circuit. Well that's true, BUT I didnt' get to read the instructions until I had the unit in my hand. Also - in my state, all outside outlets must be GFI protected. But Parmak states - the unit isn't to be used outside so that shouldn't be an issue. Well bunks, I say, I don't have electric fenciing in my house so all those outlets outside the house (barn and garage) are on GFI outlets.
The reason I gave them one star is that this is the only one of probably six various electric fence chargers that had this problem I'm certain that it's the wiring design of this unit that's causing the problem. I'm returning it.

Very disappointing! This model would trip GFIC every time it delivered a shock. Have owned several different Parmak ac models without problem; All were operated on GFIC for safety. Talking with Parmak customer service was less than helpful. Thank goodness for Amazon's customer service. I decided to buy a Zareba AC fencer instead. Works great; and all while using a GFIC. Safety and Function!

I ordered this for my horse pasture about a year ago that is about a mile around total. We put up wire fencing on our plastic poles with telephone poles at every corner. In the summer the hay gets to be taller than the fence and with the wire this fencer burned right through them. I never had to worry about whether the fencer was working properly or not like I did other fencers. We originally bought 60 dollar fencers from our local tractor store that would quit working after a couple months. This fencer burns through weeds and keeps the fence very hot. The neighbor kids used to play a game where they would compete to see how long they could hold onto the hot fence before they couldn't stand it. They stopped playing that game as soon as we got this fencer. They learned really quick and so will your cattle or horses. Don't touch the fence. Exactly what I was looking for. It has an electricity output screen that tells you that it's working and how much it's putting out. We had really bad lightening storms this summer and our fencer ran right through until it was actually struck by lightening. When that happened I had no problem getting right back on amazon and buying a new one for 140 dollars. I didn't even look through the other fencers online, I knew what I wanted and what I trusted. I love walking into the barn and looking up at the fencer to read the output. I never have to go test the fence.
