Customer Reviews

Easy to fly, fun for the novice.
The video works for youtube and facebook, you can't film a movie with this but I don't think anyone assumed you could.
Definitely the best bang for your buck!

From the previous reviews you can see what's in the box and that this quad copter performes as advertised. Here are some FAQs that I personally wish I had answered before I bought mine. To be honest I would have bought one sooner.
Q: Is this edition a good value?
A: Yes. The two included batteries are more powerful than the original one you would get in a stand-alone purchase and they, alone, more than justify the purchase price. The other extras like colored props and "stealth black" hull are simply a nice addition.
Q: Do I need anything else that doesn't come in this edition?
A: Yes. Get one more outdoor hull. It costs about $50 and you WILL break at least one hull beyond repair. Electrical tape and gorilla glue work for a while (remember to tape each corner to balance out the weight) but you will eventually need a new one. I also strongly recommend getting the seperate GPS module sold for this unit if you plan on getting the most bang for your buck. Independant flight out of GPS range is amazing/terrifying and should be experienced.
Q: How's the battery life?
A: Sucks. BUT, 15 minutes per charge isn't bad for any quad copter under $2000. It's also why having two batteries is great, 30 minutes of almost uninterrupted fun is pretty good. There are also bigger batteries available.
Q: How's the range?
A: Sucks. BUT you can fix that. I can fly around my 1/3 acre back yard with no modifications. If you want to use a range extender for your wifi signal you can double that but keep in mind this gimps most feedback you get from the quad copter. For example, you loose the real time battery life display (it always says 100%) which is bad. The GPS module increases the range of automated flights to whatever the battery life allows.

This is my second AR Drone 2.0 The first I purchased 1 year ago, these new one I've had for the past month and a half. The AR Drone is a Quad Copter with built in front facing 720p HD Camera and Standard Def down facing camera. You need good light though for flying and the video to come out it's best.

What's in the box.

AR Drone 2.0
3 sets of colored rotor blades, red, orange and blue
C clip removal tool for rotor replacement
2 1500mah batteries
Standard Battery Charger
In Door and Outdoor hulls in black
Set of stickers

What's different from this versus regular AR Drone 2.0 is the Power Edition included the 3 sets of colored rotors, Two 1500mah versus a single 1000mah battery, C clip removal tool, Black hulls versus multi colored.
Also this AR Drone does seem to fly a little more stable and perform flips better than my original one which would always loose a lot of altitude when doing them. This could be the Hardware version of the motors going from 5 to 6.

Setup and How it works

Setup is simple, there practically is none if you don't include applying some of the stickers to the indoor hull. Just plug in a charger battery, download the free freeflight app on your android or iOS device and connect to the Wifi hotspot created by your new AR Drone. You may also want to rename the SSID of said hotspot within the app.

Flight Controls, flying and impressions.

Once you're loaded into the freeflight app you can run through the options and select if you're flying indoors or outdoors, the speed at which the AR Drone responds to controls. Normal versus Absolute control, joypad mode and so forth.

To take off you simply tap the take off / land button on the screen.

Awesome! Just buy it. You will not be disappointed. I have proved that it is tough and it certainly looks repairable. But, I have a request for Parrot. Please add the sentence "Read all flight instructions before flying your AR Drone for the first time" to the start of the flight instructions or move the launch instructions to end. :)

I am reading the flght instructions, step-by-step. The first one is how to launch the drone. I placed the Drone on a flat surface: the box it came in, on my coffee table in the middle of my small living room with my 46" LED TV. I launch the Drone and it shoots up to hover neatly in the center of the room, while my dogs wisely scatter. Then, it starts drifting around and starts drifting toward me. I immediately start tilting my IPhone, moving the onscreen joystick, pressing anything that looks like a button, but I cannot get it to go back down.

The Drone shoots up to the ceiling, drifts over to my curtain hangers, and gets hung up. The blades start chewing away at the end of the hanger. I press the Land Button but nothing happens. It keeps chewing away and I cannot risk grabbing it. I somehow managed to fly it off the hanger and do a crash landing.

I finished reading the flight instructions before my fourth flight. The blades are a bit chewed up but it still flies. It's tough!

I have to knock it down a star because I cannot figure out how to shut it off when it gets in trouble. I understand why you would not want to make it to easy to shutoff but when the Drone is on the floor with its blades chewing into something, you should be able to shut it off.
