With Flower Power, Anyone Can Have a Green Thumb

Parrot Flower Power is a sensor that can be "planted" close to a plant, indoor or outdoor, in a pot or in open ground. It precisely measures, in real time, the parameters that are crucial for the growth and good health of plants: soil moisture, fertilizer, ambient temperature, and light intensity. Plants have vital needs. Parrot Flower Power uses advanced sensor technologies to monitor the plants' welfare through a range of parameters. Using the data gathered every 15 minutes by the four sensors, the user is able to understand the exact requirements of their plants. The materials chosen for manufacturing the Flower Power ensure the product is watertight and robust. The Parrot Flower Power can be used both inside and outside (from -10 °C to 55° C). Waterproof, it can withstand watering, rain, and liquid fertilizer. Put it in the ground or in a pot and monitor the changes in your plants and garden.

Bluetooth Smart & Real Time Monitoring of Multiple Plants

The data retrieved by the Parrot Flower Power is sent to your Smartphone or Tablet using Bluetooth low energy technology, allowing it to communicate with Bluetooth Smart Ready devices. Bluetooth Low Energy, integrated into recent Bluetooth version (v4.0) is the latest wireless technological standard which consumes very little energy. When you are near your Flower Power, you can use Live mode to check the light intensity, ambient temperature and soil humidity. Every 15 minutes Flower Power measures four data sources and stores the data in its memory. Every two hours Flower Power sends data to your Smartphone via Bluetooth Low Energy. If you are not within Bluetooth range, it keeps the data in its memory until you are back within range (data kept for up to 80 days). Alerts are sent to your Smartphone each time one of your plants needs attention. There is no need to be near your Flower Power to get the notifications. A Parrot Flower Power can monitor several plants in the same pot, in a planter or on a small plot of land if the conditions of watering, soil drainage, exposure to the sun and wind are uniform.

A Free Dedicated App

Download the Parrot Flower Power App on your Smartphone or Tablet. The application will then connect your Flower Power to the Parrot Cloud (via 3G/4G or Wi-Fi) where the data is analyzed. After the data is analyzed, you receive an alert in real time when one of your plants has special water, fertilizer, light, or temperature needs. Follow the changes in your garden directly or simply consult Parrot's vast but easy to use database. Using the application, the user can select their plants from the database in the Parrot Cloud, which has been developed by botanists. More than 6000 varieties are listed and custom advice is given on maintaining each plant.

Garden — monitor multiple plants at the same time

With the Parrot Flower Power App, you can track the status of multiple Flower Power sensors, and the health of your whole garden.

"To Do" list

As well as monitoring the status of different plants, the Parrot Flower Power App will create a "To Do" list based on current alerts and the predicted status of your plants over the next few days.

Water & Fertilizer

The Parrot Flower Power App monitors the moisture level in the soil surrounding your plant and can track it over time, allowing you to plan for regular watering. By also tracking the fertilizer levels, you'll be able to plan when to add plant food to your scheduled watering.

Heat & Light

The Parrot Flower Power App will give you a chart of the temperature levels in the soil of your plant and compare it with the ideal levels for your chosen plant species. The Parrot Flower Power sensor also keeps track of the amount of light your plant is receiving and will warn you when conditions are too shady or too bright.

Alerts

When the water, heat, light or fertilizer levels of your plants are in need of special attention, the Parrot Flower Power App will create an alert to tell you what needs to be done.

Planning ahead

If all the levels are currently good, the Parrot Flower Power App can help you plan ahead for when you need to water or feed your plants.

Battery back out, back in, back to Settings on my iPhone, back to the app.

As others said, it doesn't exactly tell you how much of each, but honestly, you don't really need that as the product (or water/sun) is pretty easy to get right.

I can only see this product getting better with time, it already did its own software update.

My wife loves to Garden. I love tech. So when I saw this in the shop, I started laughing.. it was such a nerdy concept.. but then, it struck me. It does give plants a voice. Your dog, cat or kid lets you know when its hungry, tired, needs water, plants can't, other than wilting. The idea of using tech to monitor not just one, but four vital parameters and then transmitting it to your smartphone.. it's such an original idea in consumer tech. But.. the key question was, Does it really work? I read a few good reviews and took the plunge.. after all it was Christmas eve and I wanted to get my wife a nice gift and this fitted the bill to a T.

Well, my technophobic wife loved the idea and we decided to "plant" in in a sick indoor Cycas to see.. or rather, diagnose, the problem. Within 36 hours, we found that the Cycas wasn't getting enough light and there was TOO MUCH FERTILISER ... who would have thought? It even guided us to water the plant more, so as to get rid of the excess fertiliser and told us the temperature and moisture were OK. My wife said, "I thought of doing the same thing" ( and she's had a green thumb for decades) "But having it all spelled out, with data and recommendations...it feels much more scientific and satisfying"

This is pretty amazing. I noted another review that stated that it doesn't tell us how much more to water, or how much fertiliser to add, or how much more sun is needed. Actually, that would be great, but maybe its expecting too much. It does show in real time how much light the plant is getting and this suits us fine. It told us our indoor fig (Ficus) needed more light, the temperature, moisture and fertiliser levels were fine, so we moved it nearer to the window. Lets see how many days it needs.

***Long story short, in it's current rendition, this device is a mostly useless piece of tech gadgetry.***

Gardening is my passion! I have grown indoors and out, for years (56 houseplants, 3 acres of gardens and lawns). I live in the mountains in Colorado and making sure my plants have enough sunlight can be quite a task! When I first saw this device, I was VERY excited! Finally, a device that automatically checks most of the soil/growth parameters that a significant number of amateur horticulturists might struggle with. Perhaps the anticipation got the best of me.

Pros:
-iOS Connectivity!!!
-Measures Temperature, Soil Moisture, Fertilizer Level, and Sunlight Amount/Intensity.
-Reminders and notifications when any of these are out of bounds.
-Vast majority of plants that people will come across are in their database.
-Tailors recommendations and parameters to the species being grown.
-Nerd Factor! haha

Cons:
-Who the heck designed the User interface??? Options Include:
-5 year-old
-Flower Child circa 1965
-Everything takes FOREVER (>24 hours) to update!
-Once it FINALLY updates, the suggestions are vague general statements.
-Not enough sun (Well how much more does it need???)
-Add more fertilizer (Again, how much?)
-Perhaps add some kind of status bar to indicate where the plant is, and what the deficiency is.
-No WiFi to push info through to the cloud (Netatmo, Philips hue, or Nest)
-Everything must go through Bluetooth on a phone.
-Phone must be in range
-No application for a home computer (!!!

This might seem expensive, until you understand what it is. Not only does it sense water, fertilizer, insolation and temperature, it broadcasts these in real time or cumulative. Makes recommendations from it's database. I just updated the firmware via Bluetooth. Just stand near the Parrot until downloaded. The Parrot then reboots (it's a dedicated computer), which it indicates by flashing as it restarts. It's pretty impressive right off the bat on Christmas day. Fun to watch in real time, but probably will be most valuable after it assesses the plant's situation for 24 hours. Once it knows what a full day is like in the particular spot in your garden, it begins to make suggestions. Pretty cool involvement with the garden for someone who loves plants. I can now check the crepe myrtles outside the south wall without walking around the house! If works as well as it seems, will probably want several more for strategic areas of the yard or treasured specimens. Fun!

What do you get someone who loves gadgets and gardening? The Parrot Flower Power of course! I bought 2 of these as gifts for Christmas this past year. I was a little hesitant as it's such a new product and I couldn't find a lot on the net regarding how well the Flower Power actually works. After setting the Flower Power up with the people I gifted them to, this is what I can say:

Pros:
-EASY set up (battery installation, app download, bluetooth sync is all a breeze)
-The companion app (free) for android or iphone is very intuitive
-The plant database that is included with the app is UNBELIEVABLY comprehensive.
It has every plant/tree/shrub you could possibly imagine and it tells you exactly how to care
for all of them
-It's very easy to follow light intensity, hydration, fertilization, and temperature trends

Cons
-It takes 24 hrs. for the Flower Power to fully diagnose a plant after you place it

All in all, I couldn't be happier with this device. Whether or not you're looking to get one for yourself or for a friend, I would highly recommend it!
