In the world of local music, its hard to think of any band that has revitalized the local jazz scene to the extent Happy Apple has. Smashing elelments of free jazz, together with highly structured compositions, various world folk rhythms and a healthy dose of rock n roll energy, are the tools the trio has wielded to bring jazz what it has long needed - a non-jazz audience. Happy Apple is jazz for the people, and their new release, Part of the Solution Problem (No Alternative), provides something to love for everyone from purists to garage rockers.

The funky, explosive, avant-jazz trio is now aligned with a real label, No Alternative Records. And theyve got packaging and sound quality to rival any techno crew, plus some great special guests: Bill Carrothers (Fender Rhodes Piano) and Greg Lewis (trumpet). Thats not to say that local drum god and raconteur Dave King is taking the bands commercial saga too seriously.
