Product Description

At ten and two-sevenths years of age, Tillie McGwinn has already had numerous adventures with her Uncle Quentin, a famed pirate-hunter. So, when a hysterical ladybug whose black spots have turned green comes to Tillie for help, she barely registers the problem. As other black objects begin turning green, however, Tillie resolves to uncover the secret of the displaced colors. Her quest takes her through The Stranger Forest, into the depths of Lake Loch, across the Plains of Wompusmeeste, and into an abandoned amusement park. Along the way she makes new allies – Grayden, the underwater boy warrior; the ancient and wise Keeper of the Flame; and the mythical creeping house – as well as new enemies – the parliament of daylight owls, Lord Mareel, and the dreaded Wompus Wulf. Then there’s the witch Eve, whose allegiance seems to change with the wind. Which side is she on? Why does she have a pet golem? And where did she get that fabulous red leather cat suit?

I loved this book! It is full of creativity and exciting adventures that will keep adults and children alike, intrigued. A must-read! My only complaint is that it isn't yet available in hardcover. I will be on the lookout for additional titles by Dalton C. Dalton.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just plain fun, April 11, 2009

I downloaded this book onto my iPhone and really enjoyed it. It is listed as a young adult novel, but it is well written and clever enough to hold an adult's attention as well, kind of like the Harry Potter or C.S. Lewis books. The characters are all unique and engaging, especially the witch Eve who is a morally ambiguous anti-hero. The initial problem of black things turning green is really just an excuse to send the main character (a little girl named Tillie) on a cross-country journey across a fairytale-like land. Along the way, she meets friends and enemies, gets shrunk down to a tiny size by a bag of vanishing powder, and goes for a ride in a living house. This would make a great book to read aloud to a kid.
