A rollicking, fantastical romp,
By eloisebd (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Particolored Unicorn (Mass Market Paperback)
I ran across this book on my mother's shelves, and devoured it in a single sitting. It both is, and is not, a quintessential 'find the princess, reclaim your lost kingdom' sort of story. Some of its undeniable humor comes from how little it takes itself seriously (which doesn't mean it's internally inconsistent or stupidly self-referential - think _Scream_ or _Spaceballs_, not _Scary Movie_). Off-the-wall realities of its fictional world are presented completely deadpan (unicorns produced by magical genetic engineering; an Evil Wizard -- the protagonist's fiancee's uncle -- who transported Neuschwanstein to Bermuda and lives in it, surrounded by a protective moat of carnivorous pink jelly) in a way I find most appealing; almost a British sort of sense of humor is at work here.If you like Pratchett, Asprin, or Holt, give this book a try. It was indeed supposed to have a sequel, but the author has not yet succeeded in getting it published -- or indeed in getting this gem reprinted. Yet!

One Of The Funniest Fantasy Books I Have Ever Read!!!,
This review is from: Particolored Unicorn (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is about a baron who's kingdom gets taken over so then he decided that it's time to rescue his girlfriend from her evil sorceror uncle. So with his multicolored unicorn they go on a crazy and funny journey. This is a wonderful book and one of the books that I have ever read that has a hang gliding unicorn.

I read this book, pretty interesting, fairly fast paced and intrigueing however a bit hard to follow in a few places. My 14 year old daugther read it too but was dissapointed it ended just as things were getting interesting. Where's the sequel? In all I would say that it was mostly fluff. I would recommend the ... in place of it.
