5.0 out of 5 stars Simplicity, Eloquence, and a Necessary Exercise for the Jour, August 13, 2000

This review is from: Particular Examen: How to Root Out Hidden Faults (Hardcover)
Fr. McElhone takes you to the depths of your soul in search of the authentic you. Without delving too deeply into theology he simply walks you through a self questioning process with such clarity and relevance . . . you feel as though he is a long time companion who truly knows you. It is impossible for the reader who approaches this work with an open heart to lay the book down and return to their previous self. After reading it once you will feel the need to go back and study, no, live the "Examen" . This work belongs in the spiritual library of anyone who is serious about giving their life to Christ.

Peace be with you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uncovers hidden faults, October 25, 2007

This review is from: Particular Examen: How to Root Out Hidden Faults (Hardcover)
This book takes the seven deadly sins and outlines each in such a way that it leaves no doubt which one is your predominent fault. Questions at the end of each section help you determine if this particular sin is the one from which most of your sins spring. Pride, in great detail, is in itself enlightening because it manifests itself in us all. Confession will never be the same. In addition, he gives us concrete ways to cultivate the opposite virtues, all the while instilling great hope for those who want to root out their predominent fault. Taking Christ's wounds, the author leads us to reconciling our sinful nature with God. If you're serious about identifying your predominent fault and rooting it out, you will not be disappointed.
