Gr 5 Up-A colorful, fun-filled guide to the planning and execution of inexpensive celebrations that promise to be long remembered. The book is full of photographs and ideas for venues, themes, invitations, games, food, and creative activities for toddlers to 10 year olds. Of special interest are the patterns for costumes for the theme parties, such as mermaids, pirates, and space creatures, and directions for such novelty cakes as castles and treasure chests. An organizational timeline, trouble-shooting questions and answers, first-aid tips, and an index are appended. Bastyra presents lots of surefire entertainment for busy party planners.-Pamela K. Judy Bastyra's Parties For Kids,
By Caroline Roberts (Miami, Florida USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Parties for Kids (Paperback)
An excellent resource for the Mother who is mad enough to host an 'at home' party but hasn't got the requisite imagination and arty crafty skills that make it a real success. Full Color Photographs make the suggestions easy to envisage and copy. Ideas for invitations, decorations, favours, games and food are all included making it a comprehensive manual. I attempted the fairytale castle cake for my Daughters 5th birthday and was delighted to find that the result was excellent, indistinguishable from the picture in the book. However a word of caution to others, make up more frosting than the book recommends. Also if like me you find chocolate covered jelly rolls, impossible to find don't even attempt to use uncovered jelly rolls they aren't rigid enough and refuse to be covered in icing, breaking up instead. Substitute standard aluminum cans instead which are far more ameanable to being iced and are exactly the right proportions for a two layer 8 inch square cake with small semi-circular sections cut out of each corner to slot the cans into. Obviously the towers aren't edible this way but the effect is excellent. I'm feeling so impowered I'm even contemplating attempting the train cake for my son's birthday next month!

I love kid party books. This book was a big disappointment. I'm trying to plan a pirate party for my boys next birthday.sooo..... in the table of contents it says pirate party ...but all it shows is a great invite and how to dress up for a pirate party. I don't want the kids to dreass up on a hot day in costumes. This book was too vauge. I wont more game ideas.... decor ideas. It would better for Halloween, it has so many costume ideas. It has great pictures, but nothing original for parties. What a big fat Bummer. I wanted to return the book. I kept it, since I have so many books, just to add to my reference collection. Th pirate invite was cute.. But that is about it. don't bother buying this one if you want new creative ideas this one is a dud. Don't bother. Sorry to say....
