This series of Graupner Partitas for harpsichord has been dribbling out of Anelelekta for a decade. For those who know nothing of Graupner...good place to start. Any of these sets are excellent introductions to the art of this almost unknown master. An exact contemporary of JS Bach and P Telemann, yet a very diferent take on the form. These are highly musical, entertaining works, full of invention, special effects and true mastery of form. None of the almost mathematical musical logic of Bach, and rather more gravitas than Telemann. Mlle Soly's readings are a breath of fresh air. Whole discs of solo harpsichord can be challenging to the non-afficionado...not so here
Graupner was finding a way out of the high baroque, and into the classical (we can hear now). I have the series up to this 7th vol. All are worthy additions to any music collection.
