This review is from: Grand Partition & The Abrogation of Idolatry (Audio CD)
After listening to The Grand Partition and the Abrogation of Idolatry, the debut offering from Florida's Success Will Write Apocalypse Across the Sky, I have to wonder if this is the future of death metal, at least on American shores. Metalcore seems to have been our chief export in recent years. It was inevitable that someone would take what could be salvaged from the metalcore sound and incorporate it into the traditional death metal template.
SWWAAS borrows liberally from Carcass and Napalm Death, as well as Hatebreed and Converge (and at the root of all four, Slayer, always Slayer), creating a brutal and blistering answer to the melodic and gothic types of death metal that has come to dominate the European scene. Without a trace of melody to be found, The Grand Partition is a lethal ensemble of old school grind, all-out speed and guttural vocals spewing bleakly nihilistic lyrics. One knock against the band is their mallcore name and lengthy, too clever by half, song titles. Seriously, I'm pretty sure kind of thing was perfected in the 90's when Carcass first cracked open their medical textbooks. The Grand Partition is a (mostly) impressive mix of aggressive music styles. If you're a fan of the more melodic brand of death metal, or don't have any use for metalcore, you'll want to skip this one. If you're looking for something new and bold in metal, this may be it.

this totally took me by suprise. this cd is so fun to listen to i act stupid listening to it without even realizing it. you have your run of the mill blasting, high and low growls and death/grind/deathcore vocals but man they do it so freaking good. these guys make the genre look really really really awesome. i cant believe i hadent heard this before i love it. if you like death metal, deathcore, or even old school death metal its in this album. the guitars are really insane and NEVER boring through the entire album. buy it for sure its so awesome.
