Editorial Reviews

Review

"Detective Aurora Morelli is my kind of gal. No one pushes her around and no one gets in her way. Particularly when she is out to get the vicious rapist who hurt her partner. Enter the hunky Kai who is as cocky as Aurora is sassy and just as determined to get the bad guy. Great chemistry in a fast paced Las Vegas style mystery thriller with two hot protagonists make this a book you'll gobble up and hurry to buy the sequel. A don't miss!" ~ reviewed by windigo

"Aurora Morelli is as tough as they come. Ultra feminine yet wielding a big stick and a bigger attitude. When her partner is brutally hurt, she is determined to crack the creep who did it. Her interrogation tactics squeeze the truth out of a wuss of an informant, but she meets her match in her new partner, a sexy, arrogant purse-carrying cowboy, Kai Larson. When he covers her during a gunfight, sparks fly in more ways than one and chemistry simmers. This is a short story to introduction to the series." ~ reviewed by Clare Chu

"Not disappointed at all! On my way to book number 2. I have to know about the slime ball Rhondo! I'm not going to spoil anything, your just going to have to read for yourself and Yes! It is worth the ride of not being able to put your book down until it's done! Worthy! So get it and start reading. You won't regret it!"

From the Author

Suspenseful and fast-paced, this short story will introduce you to Aurora Morelli and Kai Lawson; the characters who star in the full-length sequel "Roll the Dice" (to be released September 15, 2012). Forced to take on a new partner, after a serial rapist attacks her former one, annoys Aurora big time. Especially when he's the kind of hotshot she normally stays as far away from as possible. But, because they both want this man more than anything else, they ignore the irritating explosions they set off from one another. And finding this slimeball becomes their ultimate goal.

I thought this was a complete book not just a few pages. Very disappointing. Even though it was just a prequel it was very misleading.

Partners is a fast paced start to a great series about Aurora Morelli, a tough cop who sets out to find a serial rapist.
Cannot wait to read the next book in the Vegas Series, where she gets a hot sexy new partner who also has his own agenda for finding the rapist.

Detective Aurora Morelli unexpectedly loses her partner to maternity leave, and to her surprise her replacement partner is not only a male, but a very attractive male named Kai Larson. One huge thing he's got in his favor besides the attractiveness is the fact that he's joined the LVPD to go after the same bad guy that Aurora has been after, a bad-ass perp named Earl Rhondo who beat up and attempted to rape her ex-partner. For Aurora it's personal, and she has been using every trick in her cop repertoire to find him and put him behind bars for a long time. Now she's got a hot tip on where Rhondo will be and hopes that having to break in a new partner is going to be a help in bringing the guy down rather than a hindrance.

This short story is meant as an introduction of the characters and situation to be covered in a new series of novels. At the beginning it seems to be setting up a tough, hardcore cop action story, but by the end it begins to sound more like a romance novel with guns as Aurora has trouble resisting her new partner's sex appeal. The action and police portions of the story were much stronger and more compelling than the introduction and distractions of the possible budding romance portions. Depending on the emphasis of the cases versus the romance in the coming entries in the series, it may be worth following. If the author turns more to romance at the expense of the hardcore cops and their tracking down the bad guys, it will fall into a trap better avoided for the long-term good of the series.

Recommended as a quick sampler of possibilities to come.

Well, i have to say I read this prequel and then went on to read the actual first book , then the second book and then the bridge to the third. I cannot wait for the third.

I really loved this whole series. Well developed characters. Mimi did not spend too much time catching you up from the prior book and worked in the details you needed without being too wordy.

Characters were very well developed and still did not give away all their "secrets". There was great intrigue and suspense. I really could not put any of the books down. Not heavy reading but just exciting enough to keep you reading.

I am dying for book three to come out. Hurry MIMI, you said March 2013 and you only have 14 days left!!! Very enjoyable and would highly recommend if you want suspense without alot of terror or gore.

NIce amount of Romance but not too mushy. I could really visualize the characters.

Mimi Barbour's "Partners" maybe a short suspense/romance as a prequel to "Roll the Dice" but it's fast-paced, funny--Aurora has an attitude that just won't quit--full of suspence and lots of action. Aurora, a Vegas cop, is determined to capture the brutal rapist who hurt her friend but butts her head with her new "Mr. Macho" partner (Kai Lawson) who is just as gung-ho to get the criminal for his own reasons. I would have liked to know the color of Kai's eyes and just how sexy he really is, but hey, you'll find that out in the next book as I did--and I was not disappointed. "Partners" offers you just a teeny taste of the on-going story and its two strong characters and will leave you ravenous for the next course in "Roll the Dice". You won't want to miss any of Ms. Barbour's Vegas series.

I couldn't decide from the prequel story, whether it was a romance or action packed police drama. Either one would've been great to read, but, once I had read the Ch. 1 of the book, Roll the Dice, it became clearer that it was all that, rolled into one. I liked the action, the sassy Aurora, the later introduced Kai, even Ham, Debbie, and Cory had interesting personalities. Partners is a separate story, yet also a great introduction to Roll the Dice.

Interesting comebacks, such as "little lietenant" in reference to her old partner's still-in-the-womb baby, made Auroras' character more rounded and interesting.

I even learned a new word, druthers, from Partners.

Loved the short intro, looking forward to reading the follow-up book.
