Book Description

July 2004
Partnerships in Place offers school social workers working in collaboration with educators a practical means for teaching students social skills. The Partnerships in Place approach provides a framework for establishing a strong system of support in the school setting for all students, especially those who are at risk for failure as a result of behavioral difficulties and/or life circumstances. The guide and accompanying videotape (vhs) provide you with strategies, activities, and management tools for teaching social skills. The package is organized to help you integrate the social skills approach in the following ways:

- Serving as a prevention specialist in the classroom.
- Supporting a large group of students with positive skill development.
- Working with small groups of students to replace antisocial behaviors with prosocial ones.
- Designing a positive behavior management plan as part of the therapeutic contract with an individual student.

The manual was successfully field tested in urban, rural, and suburban school districts. The videotape introduces the Partnerships in Place approach by showing social workers in action. It also includes a documentary of the framework operating in a large urban school district, as well as several segments that show how social workers can integrate a collaborative approach to teaching social skills in school settings.
