4.0 out of 5 stars Good compilation overall with mostly good tunes, April 14, 2003

This review is from: Party CD (Audio CD)
The twelve songs on this CD are from the period 1979 to 1989:

1. "Freeze-Frame" - Good choice; this is my favorite J. Geils Band tune.
2. "She Blinded Me With Science" - The single edit. I like the album bersion better but this one is good too.
3. "Mony Mony" - Not exactly a rebel yell, but a decent remake of the Shondells classic, resulting in Billy Idol's biggest hit.
4. "The Tide Is High" - The uncut album version. Right on! Slicing and dicing songs stinks.
5. "Karma Chameleon" - Although I would have preferred "Miss Me Blind," this was Culture Club's highest U.S charter and is pretty good.
6. "My Sharona" - The single version with the shortened guitar segment. I like the album version better but this one still rocks.
7. "Mexican Radio" - Wall of Voodoo's biggest claim to fame and a great choice. Okay, this song is the reason I bought the CD in the first place. :-)
8. "Let's Go All The Way" - A one-hit wonder. I can take it or leave it.
9. "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" - Now here's a strange one. The liner notes describe each 'artist' and tell how high the song charted. In this case, the notes mention Pat Benatar's "Love Is A Battlefield" (her biggest and best song), but instead of that one we get her second best. Weird.
10. "Venus" - Bananarama's biggest U.S. hit and a good remake of the Shocking Blue classic. This sounds like an extended version.
11. "Pump Up The Jam" - A Belgian group trying to sound like a black American group. So-so.
12. "Obsession" - May have been a Top Ten hit but this one finds its way into too many 1980s compilations.

All in all, I'm glad I have this one even though I don't play every song on it. Depends on what you're looking for.
