5.0 out of 5 stars The Party Girl Cookbook
Fun 'n' fab 'n' filled with facts, this great book is the perfect answer to the question, "What should we do next weekend?" If you're a vegetarian like me who gets sick of being offered hot dogs at unimaginative 4th of July barbecues, you'll love the wide variety of offerings listed here. 2.0 out of 5 stars The Party Girl Cookbook
I own many cookbooks designed to facilitate easy entertaining and this book is one of the worst I have ever purchased. There is no guidance as to what can be made ahead or frozen. It is written in paragraph form and difficult to follow. There are no pictures just a lot of writing. If you are looking for "cute" party themes then this is the book for you, but if you...

Spicing up the recipes are all kinds of party ideas and great trivia--who knew there were so many verses of "The Star Spangled Banner"? These authors did, and they've served all those verses up, along with 300 pages of other info, contest ideas, inventive invitations, costume recommendations, suggested soundtracks, and decorating details. This book makes throwing the party as much fun as attending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Helpful Party Tips!, August 23, 2000

Having thrown a few parties in my time, I know the frustrations and annoyances that most "party" cookbooks serve up to the ambitious host/ess. Hours of prep, cooking and clean up for a few minutes of fun. Not with the party girls! Their easy recipes and fun, imaginative themes make you WANT to throw a party. And since there are two themes per month (and some are pretty ...unique) you have no excuse not to. I have made about a dozen of the recipes and have found them as easy and tasty as advertised. I know I sound like a commercial for this book, but I really have enjoyed it. I highly recommend it.

It is written in paragraph form and difficult to follow. There are no pictures just a lot of writing. If you are looking for "cute" party themes then this is the book for you, but if you want to simply plan and hostess a party with tasty recipes then there are many other cookbooks that will provide more useful information.
I felt the same way about the Last Minute Party Girl. It was sold as a two book set and there was nothing "last minute" about the recipes.

I've ready hundreds of books on entertaining and believe I have finally found my kindred spirits. Known as a "party girl" myself, I am frequently planning something between home and work. This book has given me many great ideas that I can't wait to mold into my own party repertoire. If you are looking for a book to plan your next soiree, this is the book for you. Kudos to Lara and Nina! I can't wait until they write another.

1.0 out of 5 stars The rave reviewers must not have actually tried any of the recipes from this book., August 17, 2007
I made two dishes from tPGCB last weekend for my niece's birthday party, and both recipes were messed up. The moussaka instruction had several flaws (it only gave instructions for what to do with half of the lamb mixture, and the bechamel sauce called for WAY too much milk) and the hummus recipe called for "two cloves, minced". Fortunately, I am a reasonably experienced cook and could figure out on my own how to put a casserole together, and I also knew that "two cloves, minced" meant two cloves of GARLIC. However, this is a book marketed to non-cooks, and therein lies the problem with mistakes such as these. My sister, for instance, would have called me in tears hollering "What do I do???" had she attempted the moussaka recipe on her own. (I shudder to think of what would have become of the hummus in her hands.)

This book is a great idea in theory, but the Party Girls should really lay off the booze a bit AND hire a different editor for their next book.

This book is a valuable asset when planning a party. The variety of recipes is a welcome tool with which to decide when picking a theme for a party. The fact that not very expensive items are included when preparing the recipes make it desirable!
I was impressed with the layout and completeness of the book and am eager to try recipes from it!
