Party Girl Diet is actually freedom from dieting,

I've read them all and this one is terrific. I was so inspired after reading this book that I changed my whole way of eating. I truly have read every "famous" diet book published and I had settled into a low carb mentality. I would only eat certain fruits, certain veggies and almost no breads, rice or pastas (unless of course I wasn't "ON" my diet. This always left me feeling like I went "OFF" my diet.) After reading this well written survival guide for a healthy lifestyle my fridge looks like a rainbow and I have ditched the low carb mentality. Aprilanne Hurley has included so much valuable information and tips that this book serves me well as a reference book that I keep out on the counter. Included in the book are great recipes, exercise charts and tips, top 10 foods and why we should include them in our diet, and of course the 9 PRICELESS keys to good living. I printed a copy of that page and hung it by my desk. I especially like the PGD Overnight Makeover on page 123. This book explains WHY we should incorporate all this information into our healthy lifestyle which makes it more motivating to follow it. It is all backed up by the latest science available on the topic. I highly recommend this enjoyable gem of a book.

Being that I suffer from what I like to call "Dieting Anxiety" in addition to the fact that I am too busy to read an entire book in any given amount of sittings, not to mention I despise the maintenance involved in healthy cooking probably due to a combination of the two previously mentioned facts, I feel I am a great individual to write a review of this entertaining read!!I am a 41 year old single, full-time working mother of three active children/young adults, who is training for the Boston Marathon on snow covered roads. I have not the time nor desire to ever go on a diet because let's face I like to have fun and in my opinion diets are not fun!! I was attracted to the Party Girl Diet because of the diet's name and the cover...which is a true representation of what is inside, a "Katy Perry" like version on ways of living the good life and looking good while doing it!! I am at a point in my life where I need to make a concerted effort to eat healthier to maintain an energy level and healthy mind/body for my physical and emotional life demands. Upon reading the introduction of the Party Girl Diet I was relieved to discover that I did NOT experience the instant anxiety that so often plagues me when I read any literature pertaining to guidelines on healty eating, and exercise! The words "PGD's 9 PRICELESS Keys to Good Living" caught my attention. As I immediately flipped ahead to read these "9 KEYS" - a light went off and I realized AprilAnne Hurley hit the nail on the head for me in that it is not just about diet and exercise, there is more, laughter, sleep, and stress management to name a few. Her wording and talent for organizing an abundance of valuable information is presented in a nonthreatening understandable manner that makes for an enjoyable book. The survival tips throughout could almost be defined as "cliff notes" for the busy reader! The Party Girl Diet not only became a self-help book for me on so many different levels, it is an information bank of healthy "lifestyle" tips, recipes, scientific formulas for fitness, nutrition and fun!! The 2 weeks of high quality recipes which include a lot of the foods I like, are the answer to my time constraint issues when it comes to shopping for, preparing, and serving nutritious meals to my family. I highly recommend this book to anyone who can relate to the the fact that when it comes to healthy eating and exercise, (to quote Aprilanne Hurley in Chapter 4) one must "realize that there is no such thing as a 'one-size fits all' diet - period." Bravo, well said by the author and well read by the reader being myself, a mother, a professional, a marathoner, and a "party girl" at heart !!!

One in a Thousand,

I know there must be at least a thousand diet books and I have read at least a dozen, and three of them which were huge best-sellers 10 to 15 years apart, had a major impact on my weight, health and quality of life over the last 40 years. The Party Girl Diet is now the fourth major influence and in a much more intriguing way, because it adds common sense and fun to the usual effective combination of the right food and the right amount at the right time, combined with the proper amount of the proper exercise at regulated intervals. Fortunately I was and am very disciplined and strong willed so that I can easily maintain the vital disciplines to get the predicted results. The Party Girl Diet is also quickly achieving the promised results but adds good counsel to its uniquely effective diet/heath/psychologically satisfying fun/formula. I frequently thank my daughter for enthusiastically introducing me to The Party Girl Diet, so that I can now have a fun-time easily achieving and maintaining my ideal weight and good health. This will probably/hopefully extend my exercise/diet/health regimen for another 10 years until that fifth major diet/health classic is written and enters and enhances my life.Bud M. |
